Wondering if anyone has seen something like that in the wild.

Hoping not to have to build from scratch.

The Bugs will be used as an NPC force causing havoc.
Sometimes vs a playe, also as an extra issue when players are fighting.

Thanks for any help.

A friend and I run a Starship Troopers game where the bugs are auto-generated. Drop me a line at mark@scalecreep.com

Two Hour Wargames has their Chain Reaction rules which, while geared towards skirmish gaming, might be usable as a jumping-off point to create your own 6mm-level reaction rules.

Did you find/make/pick an AI engine?

Working on some things.
Reading what others have done as well.

Looking to see what might be doable.

What about the original Rogue Trader robot rules from WD104 if IIRC (it might be Harlequin's if I'm wrong!)? I never used them (or saw them used), but you could 'write' programmes for your robots which were nice looking decision flowcharts. Probably would need some adaption, but the basic idea seems pretty flexable.

I too would suggest some of the two hour game products – You could substitute individuals for stands or units depending on your unit sizes.

All the Two Hour Wargame rules have an enemy AI with reactions. The free Chain Reaction rules by THW will work for what you looking for with little or no tweaking. You'll be able to go on bug raids or the bugs will go on raids against you.

Hellfire would have been ideal for this – too bad its OOP.
Everyone in that game has a Reaction setup, basically a list of numbers that refers to a table for a die roll. The roll plus the situation ( Outflanked, under fire, etc ) results in an action, and it was useful for solo play in that the reaction s could be added to for a move table as well.

Sounds complex, but it flowed really well in game.

Here's a system with the best AI available – Two Hour Wargames 5150: Battalion Commander has Bugs and works great for 6mm
