Okay so in the novel Team Yankee the balloon goes up and here come the Russians. Of course West Germany is where the first action takes place. However that would not be the only point of action if such a scenario had come to pass. So what other venues could one play their Cold War era battles? Would there be action in the Mid-East, what other parts of Europe would be under immediate threat, do we get round two between the Fins and the Soviets, what happens in Asia, etc? |

I'm thinking about picking it up to play some Arab-Israeli Wars, motivated by Paul72's "Team Yakhev" post. Might even do it in 3mm. V/R, Jack |

Iran/Iraq is a good one, I loved Chalfant's recent batrep on that. But it's been hard for me to find any real detail, just a lot of generic/anecdotal stuff, and I have a hard time really identifying with either side. I've even been looking for stuff on the Indi-Pak wars of 65 and 71. V/R, Jack |

Was curious about Turkey and Russia along Turkeys eastern frontier. Assume it would be some second class units and equipment but have no knowledge to back that up. Maybe M 48's |

Easy enough to answer. Team Yankee was set in Sir Hackett's WWIII series of novels. There were two that were released and they cover the war quite well. |

Mid east for sure, very fertile ground for the game. Asia Pacific all naval as the US shuts down the sov fleets there, and China wouldn't and can't get involved. |

A few years before TY, but in "Guests of the Ayatollah", Bowden mentions that the Iranian student council leaders (or whatever they were called) voted on whether to attack the US or Soviet embassy back '79. I based a brief campaign on the idea that they attacked the Soviet embassy instead of the US, that the Soviets invaded, and that the US countered the Soviet invasion. Made for some very interesting battles. Iranian units had to roll to see if they were loyal to the Shah/US, Revolutionaries, etc. Also did a series of games back in the late 1980s inspired by Hackett's description of the Yugoslav's resisting the Soviets passing through at the start of WWIII. Again, with Yugoslav forces at the time, it made for some interesting match-ups on the table, even if maybe a futile effort. |

Here in Spain , Totentanz minatures has a line in developement , intially callaed "Brunete 86" (as per the spanish army former armoured división , i.e. Brunete) , and now called Flanco sur 86 (NATO 86 / South Flank) . The initial idea would be to madke ministures to represent the spanish army of the Team Yankee timeline , but if the miniatures sell well enough , it is posible that some additional armies would be made available as well . The italian army would be one of firts candidates to expand the range .
Apparently , first thing to be made avaliable would be the spanish infantry , the AMX-30 tank , the BMR apc (and perhaps also the VEC recon vehicle) . In a future it has been mentioned that the M-47-E/E2 tank 8also useful for turkey , perhaps?) could ve mad avalible…

totally doing it, Team Yakhev 2018 in 3mm As suggested previously, Israel dragged into the Syrian conflict by Islamists, having to face modernized battle hardened Syrian army on limited engagements I am thinking also of caucasus limited engagements: Russia vs whoever trying to gain limited territory control. Whoever modernized with B grade equipment vs C grade Russians and then B/A grade Russians |

Natxoman, that would be awesome, thanks for sharing the information. |

Turkey vs. Russkies would be interesting. In my fictional world, the Iranians get rolled by the Russkies easily, who want another warm-water port, named apply, The Russian Gulf. Then, it's up to the Saudis and US to stop them from proceeding further. |

There was real concern that if the Soviets could prove the stinger missiles (among other aid) in Afghanistan where coming from the US via Pakistani intelligence that they would seize the port at Karachi. Read that in Charlie Wilson's war. My Cold War Goes Hot story begins like that. 1986. |

I've thought about doing some "what if" games during Gulf War I. What if Israel didn't hold back when the Scuds were dropping, joined in the fight and it broke up the coalition. I actually just wanted an excuse to match some Western armed Jordanians vs my Israeli forces. |

Someone posted a battle report of Iran vs. Iraq the other day. Lots of interesting armor matchups there. So, Team Mohammed from the 1980s is doable. |

This is wonderful. My intent had been to see what other theaters would take place at the same time as the setting of Team Yankee. However, because I was not a specific in my wording now we have all these interesting and cool other venues being discussed. This is one reason I keep coming back to TMP. I had not thought about Iran/Iraq as a possible way to play the game. Paul72's idea for a Gulf War that escalates is a great idea as well. Well all the ideas are good. I think I will be working on my Soviets soon after I finish up my Americans I playing for a Late WWII Flames of War League. |

Kyote – I dunno why, but USMC in Norway just doesn't hold much interest for me. Repaint – That sounds pretty cool. I've been thinking about starting in 1956, then fighting '67, '73, and '82, sort of following the same unit. Irish – That's pretty wild, I'd never heard they were looking at the Soviet embassy. Paul72 – I've always like the idea of playing the Gulf War, only the Iraqis are as good/tough as we thought they were going to be, not as bad as they really were. I just picked up Team Yankee (from Texas Toy Soldier), will give it a read tonight. V/R, Jack |

China and Vietnam border war. I believe it was 1979. Interesting blend of equipment and two Communist block nations. Fierce, but short. |

Hi Just Jack, so you are in Dallas as well. Texas Toy Soldier is a fantastic miniature game store. Let me know when you would like to play a game. Kim |

Kallman – My office is over in Irving, but I live in North Richland Hills, so TTS is a bit of a pain to get to on weekends, I usually don't feel like coming all the way back over there on non-work days. Do you play Team Yankee at TTS? Alan was telling me there is a small group that gets together. I don't have anything for Team Yankee, and can't really see myself doing it in 15mm in any case. I've been looking into 6mm and even 3mm. So, with all that said, I wouldn't mind playing a game of Team Yankee, though I'd have to use other people's toys; hell, I wouldn't mind watching a game of Team Yankee. I was going through the book last night; turn sequence is pretty straightforward, but there's a lot of algebra (i.e., if 'x' happens you can do 'y,' special rules or additives). Nothing too complex, but a lot to keep straight, and it seems to me it's sort of written funny. On the one hand it's very, very basic (explaining how to use a D6), but on the other hand there are places it seems like it's written for folks that are familiar with FOW (how to conduct anti-tank fire is not entirely clear to me, nor is distributing hits). Kyote – Will do, and it sucks but Twistercon keeps not working for me because of Little League baseball… V/R, Jack |

Kyote, I was all set to go to Twister Con but my finances have been extremely tight since I moved to the Lone Star State. It does not help that I am sending about half my money back to my home state of North Carolina to pay the mortgage on the house there until is ready to sell. Hopefully it will go on the market soon and that bit of a money drain will be over. Regardless I do have my sites set on Twister Con 2017 and running some games next year. Just Jack, I've not played a game of Team Yankee yet. I have my Soviet forces and I am getting them painted and ready to game. There is a devoted group of players showing up at TTS and I have watched a few games and it plays pretty fast and furious. The main problem I see is that a few of the guys playing keep bringing in larger and larger forces and it seems to be the game bogs down after you go past 100 points. Still I would love to play Team Yankee. TTS is a great store and yes I am up there pretty frequently. Then again it is only a 15 minute drive for me from North Dallas to Carrollton. Currently I am playing in the local Late War WW II Flames of War League. I've also run Bolt Action and Tomorrow's War at TTS if ever any of those interest you Just Jack. |

The old GDW "Third World War" series of boardgames give a good overview of the forces available in the Northern, central and southern European fronts as well as the Iran/Iraq portions of the near/middle east circa 1985. |
