Hi,
I love UNPAINTED 1/72 plastic miniatures and I use them (UNPAINTED) for wargames.

Two simple questions:
1) how do you base them for wargames?
2) what kind of scenery/terrains do you use?

Thanks

Roby

Single figure basing:

(on movement stands)

Painted plastic (mostly) figures, of course (not that hard to do).

Glue them to rummoli chips.

Mine are based in multiples (late Romans) and singly (colonials). Mostly that was determined by rules chosen. Terrain wise, for colonials at least, I've been using card buildings and regular type terrain items like stepped hills and model trees. For the late Romans I have dark age buildings that do the trick.

Oh, and definitely painted. The painting is one of my favorite parts of the hobby.

There are no unpainted figures on my table… EVER!

If I were to use unpainted figures, I would go with a minimalist approach, where less is more.

For black powder era I would base three figures per base, and paint the base the same color as the figures. The idea would be to give it a kind of surrealistic this is a game, not a diorama look.

I would do the same for WWII and later, but with one figure per base.

As for terrain, I don´t think it would look good to have more detail there than are on the figures. Thus the same minimalist look, staying away from anything that looks too realistic.

My plastic chaps get painted and based like everythign else.

Ancients on 25mm DBx bases (2-4 figures per base, depending).

WW1/WW2 generally 2-3 figures per base.

My 54mm chaps go on single bases though.

I did this with some Revell thirty years war plastics

Oooh. I've got a load of those floating around. Yours look good – maybe I should paint mine some day

@ Marc

Check out Field of Glory-Renaissance rules.

Then build your Swedish army. And then build an Eastern army of Poles & Russians….maybe let a few Turks in too….to oppose it.

Not entirely historical but as you know, there are now a flood of such figures in plastic.

Having grown up with Marx Playsets and 54mm soldiers from all the great 50's/60's era including 1/72 Airfix and (when I could find and afford Them) the beautiful Atlantic mini's, I love the look of unpainted poly plastic figs. I wargame with them quite often too. But I also love finely painted metal figs and do the same…
