"Correct title"? Heads up: movies are commonly released under different titles for different markets. Nothing incorrect about it.

"Nate & Hayes"? "Savage Islands" in the UK.

"Scallawag"? "Pegleg, Musket & Saber". (That's right – they changed the US title, but kept the US spelling.)

And "Jean Lafitte"? "Buccaneer".

How in any universe could anyone vote against the coolest pirate ever, Johnny Depp using Keith Richards as his inspiration?

Flynn > Depp

To Norman D Landings:

It may be a minor point, but none of the following website articles about the 1958 version of "The Buccaneer" make any mention of it ever being released under any other title: Wikipedia, IMDB, Turner Classic Movies. Furthermore, a Google search for "Jean Lafitte" coupled with any of the terms "movie," "film," or "cinema" failed to turn up any movie reference with the actual title "Jean Lafitte."

I would suggest everyone was fully aware of what was being spoken of, including you Attila as you obviously "made the connection to apply the correction" --- (should have been a rapper) so really whats the difference?

Amen, Russ, I didn't remember the title specific and didn't want to interrupt my typing to do the Google search. But thanks to Attila for getting the correct title for those unaware. It is a fun movie.

If I'm any indication, the Battle of New Orleans sequence in The Buccaneer must have sold many a box of Airfix Waterloo Highlanders to junior proto-wargamers.

40 years on and I'm still planning to re-create that scene in 15mm.
