Also available here (without the maps): link Btw, the report goes beyond troop movements. Hennessy tells the story of this battle in this report, including casualties figures for each unit on the field and much more. |

I think this report served as the basis for Hennessy's famous book Return to Bull Run: The Campaign and Battle of Second Manassas. |

Thank you for this. Hennessy's book "Return to Bull Run" is the best account that i have read on this particular battle. He really did his homework on this. Excellent read! |

For what it's worth, while nothing beats free, some readers might be interested in learning that this same study was published in a hardback, with 16 color, separate maps, (Union in blue, Confeds. in red, terrain contours in light brown, etc.) by H.E. Howard as part of his " The Virginia Civil War Battles and Leaders Series". By separate I mean the maps were not attached to the book, but were printed on thick paper, came in a tube and could be laid out on a table for detailed study alongside the text. They are about 16" x 24" if IRC. The entire publication was a fairly high quality production. It was a limited edition run of 1000 books, but It may still be available at a reasonable price for anyone interested in the subject. I bought mine some time after publication, and I was only number 145 out of 1000. |

Just checked and there are multiple copies of the Howard edition out there ranging from $12 USD-$106, with most in good condition for under $50. USD But beware, apparently some have the maps included with them and some don't. |
