Well "The Weekend" at the Continental Hotel Lancaster PA is over and it was a nice success. We continue to grow the convention and everyone seems satisfied. We had many games, at least two dozen, some of them completely unscheduled, and open gaming aplenty. As I saw it only ONE game was a no-show and that was unfortunate, but I simply had no gamers to put into the game at the moment. The munchie pit was a great success and there was laughter and enjoyment. The Bring and Buy table was a great success and it was the largest ever, as was the kick-off dinner on Thursday night. I will be writing and assembling the 48 page full color "After Action Report" with battle reports on all the actions, with photographs. This will be available in about two months. Unfortunately we shall have to charge for it this year. Next year the convention "theme" will be the "American Civil War" and we are starting planning for that now. Of course, the theme means little, players can put on whatever game they wish. It's just an excuse for snazzy cover art. Hopefully we will be able to add a limited dealer presence. Board gamers put in a presence, orphaned by the WBC, and next year there will be more. They played in miniature games as well and of course most of our gamers also played in board games now and then. Next year we will be opening up the convention on Wednesday and Thursday's in one smaller room, and having the big ballroom on Friday and Saturday. Sunday Breakfast at the hotel is almost an event itself with long lingering at the table, with socializing as well. Anyone interested in being added to the mailing list to get our four quarterly updates published throughout the year are urged to write me at sigurd@eclipse.net and give me your postal delivery address. Gasp! Such frivolity! Such a-historicality! Such fun-having! We must stop such things, root them out of the hobby, for only Real Historical Games (tm, pat.pending) are permissible. And only across the street from the Host? Why, no wonder such bad influences have accumulated for Cold Wars and Fall-In! Shame! SHAME! Leading poor impressionable gamers down this seductive path to enjoyment! Promoting the false gospel that gaming might be _fun_! Shame again!!!!!! You will all burn in Heck for this, I swear! |

Dear CapnCarp It's far worse! There were many members of the general public at the hotel, several bus tours came though. I was able to give the tour to several people who hadn't known about war games till 15 minutes before when they wandered through the lobby. All of them wanted to be on the mailing list. We pushed into their hands all kinds of stuff, including the Society of Daisy's hand out "All About War Games" a 16 page full color booklet written on the basics for people who never knew the hobby existed. So I am now polluting the minds of the general public. I, the Prince of Dorkness have been leading people astray. "Come to the Dork side of the Farce." One of the couples who came through saw it and said, with a very wistful lilt to his voice "Oh it's a lot like D&D!" "Umm.. yes… yes it is…in a way" I said. |

And in a way, far darker. How about my pack of Irish wolfhounds, led by a sheep (actually a wolf in ….well, you know) C |

Woe, woe, woe, We of the True Wargmers are lost, lost, lost! You have doomed us! Unclean, unclean…. |

But Capncarp!! Don't you realize what an opportunity this is for you? I draw them in through the worship of the Golden Calf (ankle and thigh and upper half!) and you can save their souls once they are inside the tent for "True Wargames." Softly softly catchee monkee. |

Hi, Otto. I'm sorry, I didn't see this thread (honestly!) or I would have taked on this post: TMP link instead of creating a new thread for it. In short, we had a great time, and we're idiots for arriving too late. We did get to visit a fun little airshow on the way home the next day! VR Walt |

No problem Walt, thanks for the kind words. Next year we will have a longer convention, from Wednesday to Sunday, and might even have some stuff going on on Sunday, though most people just want to meet and gab and yak and laugh over breakfast. Next years theme (for whatever it's good for is the Civil War. 2018 we are thinking of doing the theme of "In'ja" War in India. I hope to have my Indian armies of the Mahabahamarimban Confederacy and the Bollywoodbojangles Kingdom ready for it. |
