Wondering how this set would work for solo play with about 24 figs(reduced platoons..ie 2 squads with lmg or bar and command unit) per side. will be using a 4x6 table. My questions are as follows:

will it work with individual based figs?
does it use d20s like TSATF?
do you need the K-Bar and Bayonet set in addition or is it stand alone?

I already have both the old TSATF set, its supplement and the anniversary set as well and am ordering the With Old Gimlet Eye rule set.

any other feedback or info will be appreciated. I have another WW2 set that will work, but TSATF and its variants are so much fun.

thanks in advance,

Sam

Sam;
I've been looking into running a WW2 game using these rules also.

Individual figures work best since the firing cone is fairly narrow. You can adjust each figure to cover an area.

It uses D10's for movement, firing and command response. You can use D20's just subtract 10 from the big numbers.

All of the 'quick play' rule sets from Sergeants 3 are stand alone. Knowledge of TSATF is useful because some of the game mechanics are the same. They are usually modified to speed play.

You may need markers to show when a figure is prone or standing. In most instances a figure will be crouching and taking advantage of terrain. This is the default posture. Figures can go prone and crawl (making it harder to see and hit them) or figures can stand upright (like when charging into hand-to-hand) making it easier to hit them.

Just saw your post, Ed!
Thanks for the info. Have played Larry's Chassepot & Needlegun(still my favorite rule set) and TSATF since 90.
Never got to play any of the more modern variants until recently with The Sword in the Phillipines.
Rumor has it you are one of the Jackson gamers. Would love to have had the chance to meet and game with you guys.

thanks again

Sam and Ed,

I also just saw this thread.

Sam, Ed was the gamer I asked to help answer your initial M1's questions as he is looking into the rules for a game at Colonial Barracks VI in November. Ed is indeed a Jackson Gamer; they are the guys who get all the praise (and the abuse) as far as questions go with Dad's rules….
