I've seen three of them, and "Letters from Iwo Jima" is still on my to-see list.

saw all of them.

I'd say after watching recent battle on Game of Thrones. Excluding the Giant, it was very brutal and realistic looking. Mass Cav. charging into each other, bodies piled chest high, arrows raining down and foot soldiers being trampled by horses….

Well OK but … I guess we knew what was going to be on this list.

20 years ago is 1996, so we can't pick anything older than that. 1998 was the year with 2 Oscar-nominated realistic war movies duking it out (and thereby losing the Best Picture Oscar), so those two are certain.

So there are only 4 slots left. So what are the 4 most realistic war movies after 1998? There's probably only 5-6 contenders.

I could see not choosing "Rescue Dawn" because it's not so well-known, and thereby having a slot open for oh, "American Sniper" or "Navy Seals" or something like that, but basically … we knew what this list would be.

A lot of veterans would disagree with Hurt Locker being realistic.
