Hi all

Och Aye – the 42nd are now marching to the sounds of the guns.

Victrix with some Westfalia and Perry Minis bits and pieces.

Apart from the checking on the hats they were not as hard a paint as I feared.

Brilliant work Brian! You weren't tempted to use the Victrix tartan transfers?

Brian Smaller17 Jun 2016 2:05 a.m. PST

I saw those – and was tempted, but I am so ham fisted with fiddly things I think I would probably use two or three per figure.

They are not easy and I found the waterbottle impossible to use. I had some success with the 71st diced headband, well, far better than I could have done by hand. They would not improve on what you have done here. The kilts could not campare with your work I suspect

For those of us lacking that degree of skill and who are daft enough to start a kilted Highland regiment, I think the headband and the kilt would work well. You do need to base on white paint and gloss is best for adhesion. Then the "decal" setting solution makes a huge difference too. Finally much Anglo Saxon expletive was involved in just doing 71st. I have several packs of kilts tansfers and a box of Victrix Highlanders undercoated for over two years. They still look at me accusingly, in matt black!

You have certainly done your homework on the plumes/hackles. Grenadiers, Light and Centre. Red over yellow some think for the drummer and it does look good…………? Nice to see King's colour and grenadier co properly placed to the right of the line. Wonderful work…I am almost motivated……

Thanks for the kind comments. All in all I am pretty happy with how they turned out. All my research was done by looking at what others had done – my usual bang up job of research.

I am thinking of doing the 79th next.

Lovely work Brian, exceptional on the kilts! Just thinking about painting Highlanders, I break out in a cold sweat.
I do find the faces a tad dark for my tastes, but that's just me.

Great work.

Beautiful work. I could never paint the kilts on my 1/72 Airfix figures so that they looked even vaguely plausible.

In retrospect I tend to agree. I put it down to living outside and being subjected to Spanish sun – either you go dark or stay bright pink.

I like the third figure in from the right shakin his wee at the enemy!

I think it is the Present Arms position.
