I usually despise fan art. All women are staggeringly beautiful, all men are muscled and toned.
But the artist who did this Targaryean family tree has a different take. "… it frustrated me to see them as elf-clones." Exactly.

Her work shows the Targs as refreshingly ordinary looking, including a few of the women whose faces would stop a clock.
Well done.

It reminds me of looking at paintings of Henry VIIIth's wives vs. the actresses cast to play them. Natalie Dormer is definitely better looking than Anne Boleyn was. Or images of Cleopatra from coins, she doesn't hold a candle to Elizabeth Taylor or Claudette Colbert in their primes. It makes you wonder what Helen of Troy actually looked like. It's nice to see a more realistic rendering. The men BTW are nothing to write home about wither.

When I first got into minis it was through fantasy ("Melee" and "Wizard" and "The Fantasy Trip") I found a pack (4 figures I think, long ago lost in a move) of "Veteran Adventurers". These guys were beat up, one was missing an eye, another one arm below the elbow, but they were some of my favorite characters.

This is too cool.

And Emilia Clark is better looking than the portrayed Danaerys. grin
And the artist's Shierra Seastar does not look at all like Stevie Nicks, as one gorgeous fan art picture shows.

The nice thing about brother sister incest marriages is that family trees take up far less paper.

remember too in the past kings didn't marry for looks, it was what the wife brought to the marriage. You know something like a small duchy or 5,000 troops.

GRRM was ripping off Moorcock's Melniboneans, so amoral elf-clone isn't a place to start, even if hackneyed.
