Does anyone have any experience with custom color spray paints? I am intrigued by the idea that if I take a swatch of color to a store they can match it in a spray paint.

Best to just get an inexpensive airbrush or borrow one from a friend. I have discovered "beating around the bush" usually costs more in the long run.

Actually, just went to fecth some quality sprays for my wife and noticed that Molotow has 251 different spray shades in their Premium range. They have other ranges too.

I had some madebup in a car paint shop to spray some space ships (a couple of unusual metallic purples for a centauri fleet).

Seemedbto work ok but not a cheap solution.

I hadn't thought of auto paint shops. The standard paint stores use a computer for some very nice matching, but the thickness would be more suitable for painting your walls. And I can't even imagine a custom color put in a spray can cheaply.

An airbrush is a dream of a tool. You can mix your own colors (with compatible paints) to do anything. Start out testing with a formula of just a drop or two on a palette and keep a record of the proportions. Once it seems right coming off a standard brush, you can mix larger batches with the same proportions (20 drops & 30 drops instead of 2 & 3.)

It can be expensive to start, but I remember it's nearly as magical as watching black & white camera film images I had captured come to life in a darkroom.

Ordering custom spray paint is something automobile manufacturers, international delivery services, and military organizations do.

It seems like more than money than sense for a hobby.

I have had an airbrush for 40 years and use it for many projects.

I have been told a can of custom colored spray paint can be as cheap as $10. USD It would be helpful for a quick spray of one or two items, without having to drag out the airbrush.

$10 USD might be OK. A small can is usually $3 USD to $5. USD A large can of primer at the hardware store is usually less than that.
