I have a fair few Dixon 15mm WSS some painted some not. I have seen the Black Hat WSS on line and they look interesting enough for me to put an army together with the Dixon's.

If you have the Black Hat WSS figures what do you think of them?

I have some of their mounted French dragoons. They are on the large side of 15mm (which is why I bought them, as I wanted them for my mid18th century army, which has a lot of the Eureka 18mm figures). They are chunky figures, bit like 15mm versions of Front Rank, quite nicely detailed and they painted up well. I am not really familiar with the Dixon range, but I have a feeling it is more of a "true" 15mm range, so the Black Hat figures would not mix in the same units, but might be OK as discrete units. Certainly worth a look.

Cheers Dave, that's the sort of thing I need to know. Dixon's are indeed true 15 as they say. That said discrete units are fine by me.

They are a stockier design than Dixons- the infantry are similar height so will mix in OK- separate units probably your best bet. Cavalry look bigger so to be honest I didn't buy any to fit into my predominantly Dixon armies.

Look at past pages on here for a decent look at WSS 15mm figures.

I like them I have a bunch that I painted as Spanish, French and English. Very nice character to them. Someone previously has done a comparison of them on the net. Look at a prior thread on WSS 15mm and that site listed by Brunton was the site I was talking about. Great site.

Very helpful lads thank you.

I've used several other ranges to fill in the gaps of what is otherwise principally Dixon. From memory, Black Hat do some ok sergeants with halberds, which Dixon don't (in 15mm that is – they do in 25mm).

Yeah I noticed one over on an imaginations post looked good. The message seems to be foot fit horse not so much. They do look nice though.

A picture they say is worth a thousand words.

Here are the Black Hat infantry and cavalry side by side, scroll down a bit, from the The Wargame Shed blog. That's some difference in size. I think those cavalry might match OG and Blue Moon though.
