Hi all,

Over the last few weeks I've made some new Strongholds for my Retro Minifigs Mythical Earth armies to defend. They are Helm's Deep, The Black Gate of Mordor-complete with flickering tea-lights and Rivendell, or at least an outpost at the entrance to the hidden valley. They were made with polystyrene and card. I'm really happy the way the tiles worked out as I've not done conical rooves before. Hope you all like them. You can see more over at the blog, as well as my new Rohan Away Team and Army of Isengard.
Comments and crits welcome.

Excellent! I especially like Rivendell – one I'd not thought of making, but a perfect Elf Stronghold. Well done, very well done!

Really neat!

The Goblins on the black gate are Garrison, not Minifigs though. frown

These are really nice structures. Perfect In size and scale. If only you could create moulds and cast them they would be terrific for other armies also.

Beware, the officer of the Rohan riders is really a Southron.

Love the retro figs.

How did you make the roof tiles ?

Thanks gents for the feedback. It's good to know there are other people who still like the old lead. Well spotted on the goblins and the Southron. He seemed like a good Theoden to me.

Making the rooves was fiddly but simple. Make a paper cone to go on the roof. Then cut thin strips of card. Cut about 2/3 of the way across the card to make the impression of tiles, then glue onto the paper cone from the bottom up, overlaying each new strip over the top 1/3 so that there is the impression of individual tiles. For the elf-tiles, further snip the bottom of each tile into a triangle.Fiddly but effective. You can see where I made a mistake on the left hand roof of the Black Gate, but the tile strip had dried by the time I saw it.

Thanks once again.
