Hi first post on the site I came here looking for recommendations. I've been wargaming for 14 years and recently my flatmate has become interested in The hobby, he's particularly interested in playing some alternate history World War three set in the 80s. I was wondering if anyone could recommend any company level rule set for this time period. |

If you want each side to command a company try Team Yankee. Fast and furious. If you want units to be companies try Fistful of TOWs 3. |

Try Sabresquadron. A cutdown version is available free in their web sitee. |

I'm with Mark on this one. I'm playing FFT3 with 3mm figs right now. Mark |

One great thing about Fistful – if you like it you can use it for WW2, 1980s, contemporary etc. It has TO&Es as well as stats for everything! |

Sabresquadron has my vote too at the moment. |

So does company level mean "I command a company" or "each stand is a company" ? Because FFT3 would be lousy for the former and excellent for the latter. |

I Ain't Been Nuked Mum, or whatever they plan to call it. Not out yet, but I live in hope, since the playtest reports look interesting. Would love an update on availability. |

Yeah, big difference between "Player commands a company" and "each unit maneuvering is a company." I suspect you're talking "player commands a company", so Team Yankee or the fan-created Modern mod for Flames of War v3 are options. I play Flames of Vietnam, and the points there are actually backwards-compatible to Late War WW2. I think that the same is true for Fate of a Nation (Arab-Israeli wars). Somewhere I've got a PDF of Sabre Squadron, need to play those. If you don't mind a bit of work and some abstraction, Dirtside II can work pretty well. Yeah, it's written as a scifi game, but it has enough rules to handle limiting things to Cold War tech. You'd have to build each tank type using the design system, but that's a one-time deal. And hey, Dirtside rules are free from Ground Zero Games. |

WRG 1950-80 also work very well for company sized engagements, as do their military variants, Contact and Dunn-Kempf. The former set is free now and the latter two are on the history of wargaming project. |

Another vote for Sabre Squadron, lovely set of rules. |

Surprised no-one's mentioned Weasel's FiveCore Company Command. |

Weasel is too modest to mention it himself. Another vote for FiveCore Company Command. |

Its generic rather than specifically cold war, is the main reason :-) |

14 years? You did not start when you were 6! McKrok – Challenger II is an evil suggestion, especially as he is VERY dyslexic! Well done! |
