Well, their goose is cooked.
We have just seen beloved Hodor, fantastic doggie Summer and boring Three Eyed Raven killed off.
Bran is being pulled on a sledge by a girl smaller than he is.
They are being pursued by wights (come on, they are zombies).

In a conventional show, they will be rescued by somebody.
Book readers have noticed that Coldhands had not shown up. Yet. To the show watchers only, he is a mysterious "not a White Walker" dude riding a giant elk. he saves Sam and Gilly and takes Bran and Meera and Jojen to the Three eyed Raven. He is definitely undead, definitely a Brother of the Night's Watch. "Theorists" (that's code for nerdy whackjobs) have theorized that he is Uncle Benjen Stark. There is evidence against that, including Martin's firm denial. But this is HBO, and D&D have ignored Martin before.
So, Possibility #1 is that Bran and meera are rescued by Coldhands, aka Uncle Benjen. I am rooting for this.

Possibility #2 is that they are overrun and killed. And become mysterious wights. Face it. This is Game of Thrones. It's just as likely as them being rescued. I like the possibility that they can die. It makes it more interesting. in a more conventional show, you KNOW that their chestnuts are pulled from the fire.

Any other theories, cough cough cough wild ass guesses?

My guess is we will find out later this season (or next)

Mithmee26 May 2016 7:33 p.m. PST

Well we did not actually see either Summer or Hodor dying.

Sure Summer was beaten by a pack of undead but is he dead?

Hodor was still Holding the Door but we did not see him die.

The Beast Rampant26 May 2016 10:14 p.m. PST

I can't imagine either Hodor or the dire wolf surviving. We don't NEED to see them die. I think the fact that Hodor's character went full circle (shorting out his poor brain in the process) shows that his story is done. At least, before necromantic intervention. Hopefully not, but seems a waste otherwise.

…But then I went on about not actually seeing Stannis die meant Brienne might not have actually killed him. But she apparently did.

I think Bran HAS to make it, at least long enough to get his non-linear chrono-mojo together and stop the end of the world. He is also the 'caretaker' of a major story arc, same as, you know, Jon.

And if Benjen doesn't show up as Coldhands, I'd like to know what they are planning for him. In Real Life, people drop off the edge of the earth all the time. In TV Land, that's called "bad writing", or "Soprano'ing".

I'm going for #2, they will get killed. Mainly because I think their story arc is "Fear The Walking Dead" lame.

theres a leaked pic of Bran of a horse possibly from episode 10 . My bets are on ; Benjen in one episode when Bran gets taken to the nightswatch and Bran has one more TOJ vision . Tommen , Pod and Rickon kick the bucket . The hound returns . Some IMHO poor storyline about the war in the Riverlands ( Lannisters/Tully's/Frey's ) . Ian Mcshane to make his debut :-) . Ramsey eaten by his own dogs .

jowady27 May 2016 6:56 a.m. PST

Well Hodor and Summer are dead (or more precisely they were killed). Now that may mean that now they are Zombies (this is a plot line that I don't care for at all. I know that people love Zombies and "The Walking Dead" but it's not something that I care for). In Book Characters we have Coldhands (GRRM has said that he isn't Benjen) as a possibility and then there's Benjen himself. A prevailing Fan theory is that the Night King wants to drive Barn south of the wall because once he is the Night King can ignore the magic that keeps him North of the Wall (just as he was able to cross the barriers at the Three eyed Raven's cave.

Jowady, I didn't know The Wall was magical, but that does stand to reason. Thanks!
Sadly, I think Hodor has to come back as a zombie, it's such a damnable TV/Movie sort of thing to do, even though it'd be cheesy are heck.
I agree that Ramsey will probably get eaten by his own dogs. The Hound must return, though I doubt he is as redeemed as some watchers make him out to be.
Having not read beyond book 3, I wonder where things are going with Aria. Will she kill Tommen? Become an avenger for the North, or maybe Denaerious' tool? And what all can Sam expect to learn at the Citadel in time to be of any help?

Couldn't Bran control some other animal or person to rescue them?

doug redshirt27 May 2016 9:39 a.m. PST

Teaser showed Meera and bran rescued by someone on horse back. Meera is also probably Jon's twin sister. So she has to survive also. Now that Branhas the Night Kings mark on him and the night king can follow that mark anywhere, I imagine he will let bran escape to the wall.

Tommen in a twist of fate dies when jumping out of a window ..

Arya refuses to kill the actress , the waif is thus sent to kill Arya , Arya kills the waif and flees Braavos …

I just hope that Bran does not fight off the zombies using some "newly discovered or emerged" power that he now has. To me, that would be a complete waste of all the hold-the-door nonsense if Bran in the next episode blasts the zombies with his superpowers. Personally, I think that is at least 40% likely to happen, however.

I think you're on to something Dwight. Someone should give that waif a smack.
And in three episodes, Arya is back in Kings Landing, shacks up with a very tired Gendry, and goes into the Needle for Hire business.
Cersei hires her to skewer Septa Unella, not realizing who is under that hoodie. The Hodor Hoodie.

Ram Kangaroo28 May 2016 10:37 a.m. PST

Thanks for the spoiler John. Some of us haven't caught up yet.

Winston Smith28 May 2016 4:29 p.m. PST

It's a SPOILER to suggest that Bran and Meera are in danger?
I think not.
Don't click. And you are safe.

Crazyivanov28 May 2016 5:29 p.m. PST

So, is Balon Swan going to deck Tormund for stealing his not girlfriend or what?
