Just thinking about starting the SCW in 28mm and want some advice on figures. I've seen the Empress range in the flesh/metal and they are excellent figures so probably an obvious choice to start a collection but for variety would Burns miniatures (were these Force of Arms before?) from Templar or Rif Raf be compatible? They certainly look good. link link The only other range I've seen online are Northstar. Again they look good but are these compatible with Empress? Have I missed any manufacturers? |

Empress are the best and most complete range, and I happily mix FoA with them. Northstar are also compatible.Rif Raf, not so much. I'm no scale nazi but they are quite slender in comparison. |

Thanks for the reply. Reading this (link below) Burns miniatures from Templar are the old FoA range so I'll check them out and Northstar. link |

Ditto really on the above, Empress Miniatures are the best by far but they aren't cheap, especially when you go outside the unit deals. I found FoA a bit hit and miss, I only bought a few, and some integrate well with the Empress stuff but others I just threw away. North Star fit in well, although they only did about 10 International Brigade figures last I looked. My only other suggestion for some variety would be to look at some WW2 Partisan type figures, Warlord Games do some, although they all don't work because of the later weapons those that do spice a unit up, especially when you've got 100s of the things. There's plenty of SCW stuff on my blog but I would also check out Steves Balagan and Scrivsland on t'internetwebthingy for some inspiration. Regards Ken yarkshiregamer.blogspot.co.uk |

You might have a look at some of the Footsore Miniatures (formerly Musketeer Miniatures) figures from both the Interwar and the Irish War of Independence ranges. Both have some figures that should work for urban militia. I am not sure how they would fit with Empress. |

I have a number of Empress Miniatures and they are wonderful sculpts but as stated recently not cheap. As also mentioned, the unit deals do help reduce the price. Tom |

I use mainly Empress and Northstar with a few Force of Arms – but they are nowhere near as nice a sculpt as the first two manufacturers. Also delve into the Artizan Thrilling Tales range link as there are some very useful figures in there. Likewise with their Maquis: link |

Sir Sidney (if I may) did you move ahead with your project? How do the Burns figures match up with Empress and North Star? The Empress ones are clearly the market leaders but I imagine that variety as well as cost measn it's best to have some options… EC |
