How can I possibly make a decision on that, if they can't be seen?

I'm an aesthetics kind of guy.

JOHN CSONKA22 May 2016 11:58 a.m. PST

Can't choose between Marauder or Warhammer :-) come to think of it the Rifleman too.

Hunlion

P.s Can you give more details about this new release.

Marauder and Warhammer are both on the top of my list.

Weasel22 May 2016 12:40 p.m. PST

Warhammer or Archer for me.

JimSelzer22 May 2016 1:16 p.m. PST

archer and riflemen

Buff Orpington22 May 2016 1:17 p.m. PST

Marauder for me, although the Viper is a really effective mech.

f u u f n f22 May 2016 1:21 p.m. PST

Warhammer and Rifleman have always been my favorites. They are what got me interested in both games of Battletech and the Robotech RPG.

McWong7322 May 2016 1:48 p.m. PST

Battlemaster and Warhammer.

@John, general announcement was made for GenCon last year, some of the new artwork has begun to appear on tumblr. No news on actual models yet that I've heard.

My faves are also among the ones that I've built several of the 1/144 plastic kits over the years:
Battlemaster
Goliath (always been undergunned in gameplay, but love the looks!)
Griffin
Shadow Hawk

D6 Junkie22 May 2016 2:23 p.m. PST

Warhammer

Fish22 May 2016 2:27 p.m. PST

Plenty of iconic machine sthere (Maurader and Warhammer are indeed so cool), but got to say Locust!

Locust pilots are the weirdest…

(Anyone know where FASA pilfered the design from?)

kidbananas22 May 2016 2:42 p.m. PST

Wasn't the Locust originally from Crusher Joe? It's one of my favorites along with the Galleon and Samurai.

john lacour22 May 2016 2:57 p.m. PST

PNT9r Panther.

chuck05 Fezian22 May 2016 3:39 p.m. PST

Warhammer

BigDan Supporting Member of TMP22 May 2016 3:44 p.m. PST

There is something special about the original mechs.

The Warhammer is my favorite, both in looks and how it plays. I end up overheating and shutting down a lot but is sure is fun!

Great topic Mo.

I have seen the artwork for the new Warhammer and Marauder but havent seen any mechs released yet. Hopefully we see actual mechs this year at GenCon.

Yes, Locust and Galleon were Crusher Joe, have those in 1/144 kits too!

The designes weren't pilfered, there were genuine licensing agreements for Macross, Dougram, and Crusher Joe. But there was such a tangled morass of licensing agreements across multiple companies and countries, FASA voluntarily withdrew the unseens just to avoid possible lawsuits which, win or lose, could have financially crippled the company.

Generalstoner4922 May 2016 4:20 p.m. PST

Warhammer or Griffin for me.

Dynaman878922 May 2016 4:36 p.m. PST

I see them all the time, I have the original Battletech game (not Battledroids mind).

Favorite is the Warhammer, my favorite of the redone "unseen" is the Marauder. One of the few where they took a good design and made it better. Unlike the first original (those not "borrowed" from anime) designs for the game – they were dreadful.

zircher22 May 2016 4:37 p.m. PST

I'm a fan of the Panther, the Draconis Combine should field hordes of them since in the lore they have a functional factory. As a pilot, the Phoenix Hawk LAM wins hands down. Win initiative, jump in and backstab. Lose initiative and jump out of the line of sight/range. It's cheesy, but effective.

Personal logo miniMo Supporting Member of TMP22 May 2016 4:39 p.m. PST

The Panther is not one of the unseen. FASA did not drop any of the original mechs to which they wholly owned the artwork. Only ones where outside companies held the artwork rights got disappeared.

Mute Bystander22 May 2016 5:54 p.m. PST

I don't think I have seen any of these…

Well, actually I couldn't identify them to save my soul.

They are all just big stompy targets to me.

Forager22 May 2016 9:19 p.m. PST

Marauder

Lion in the Stars22 May 2016 11:28 p.m. PST

Warhammer and Phoenix Hawk LAM.

Man, LAMs were broken, rules-wise. Keep them in whatever the halfway mode was (gerwalk in Macross/Robotech) and they're impossibly fast, don't generate any heat, and will backstab an Atlas without breaking a sweat.

Noldor4222 May 2016 11:31 p.m. PST

Warhammer & Marauder of course

D6 Junkie23 May 2016 2:11 a.m. PST

Anyone know anything about the release of the new 'unseen' models?

53Punisher23 May 2016 4:43 a.m. PST

Marauder, Rifleman and Warhammer were always tops on my list.

wminsing23 May 2016 6:37 a.m. PST

The Warhammer always has *been* Battletech to my mind (based on the old boxed set covers), though my personal favorite probably is the Battlemaster. It looks cool *and* it's a fun ride in the game.

@MiniMo- Actually there are pictures floating around of a new (plastic?) Warhammer miniature, so I think new minis are in the works!

Chalfant23 May 2016 9:33 a.m. PST

Warhammer, then Locust, then Marauder. Warhammer is not the best mech in my opinion, though a dangerous mech… but if there is an iconic image for "my" Battletech, the Warhammer is it.

Battlemaster, best looker.

ubercommando23 May 2016 12:43 p.m. PST

There's one missing from that list. It's probably one of the most obscure Mechs in Battletech. The 40 ton Vindicator. It was on the table in the original MechWarrior rulebook where you rolled to see which Mech you got. I never saw the stats or the picture in any Battletech book yet there it was, and it was the one I rolled. So I got to design it myself.

At 40 tons it wasn't powerful enough to go in an Assault or Command lance, but it was chunky for Recon lance. I designed it as Recon lance's command mech. Whilst the Wasps and Locusts sprung around and zapped light enemy units, the Vindicator could cover their withdrawl when the big stuff showed up.

Cold Warrior23 May 2016 2:37 p.m. PST

Warhammer and Battlemaster

Personal logo miniMo Supporting Member of TMP23 May 2016 8:26 p.m. PST

Hmm, I've got the Vindicator image in my 3050 Technical Readout from 1990 which does include the Mechs that were not yet unseen. And the Vinidcator looks just like the miniatures made by Ral Partha and later Iron Winds, so that is indeed a 'always seen' mech.

May have just been a glitch that it wasn't in the MechWarrior book. (Or maybe they got it confused with an Ostsol/Ostroc image evil grin)

ubercommando24 May 2016 3:06 a.m. PST

Depends, MiniMo…how far back does your MechWarrior book go? Mine was from 1985 and even in 1988, when I bought my last Battletech product, it wasn't there.

Personal logo miniMo Supporting Member of TMP24 May 2016 7:55 a.m. PST

I never bought TRO 3025, so don't know if it was shown in that like it is in TRO 3050. But…

*dig* *dig* *dig* Eureka, successful archaeology!

Battletech Reinforcements, 1987. I only bought it for the record book, the fold-up mechs are still unpunched — and there is a pair of fully arted Vindicators.

chromedog26 May 2016 3:25 a.m. PST

Shadowhawk was my favourite unseen mech.

Still have it, and an old marauder from my old BT days.
