In case you are not aware, Fanaticus will be closing down forever September 1st. Here is a link to Chris's announcement.

This will be a big hit to the DBX community, and for me personally. I had the pleasure of meeting Chris once and what a fine fellow he is. Thanks Chris, and as sad as it makes me I fully understand.

That is sad news…..

D6 Junkie20 May 2016 6:30 p.m. PST

So Sad, I often went there for inspiration

Jeigheff20 May 2016 6:32 p.m. PST

Chris Brantley is a gentleman and a half.

Fanaticus has been a veritable institution frown

Bummer. I don't even play the rules, but I like to go there and just look around.

All good things must come to an end. Thanks to Chris for all the years of service Fanaticus has given us in the DBA universe.

That's a real shame. It's been a very useful resource for me over the years and I don't even really play DBA. It will be a huge loss for those who do.

Best of luck to Chris Brantley in his future endeavours.

Oh Bugger21 May 2016 2:46 a.m. PST

I can only second that – it was an exemplary resource.

coopman21 May 2016 8:26 a.m. PST

Thanks for the effort that you put into the website all these years, Chris. You done good!

ashill221 May 2016 11:21 a.m. PST

This is very sad news; I visited the site about once a week and have been inspired by much of its content. Chris has done a tremendous service to the DBA community and I entirely understand his reasons for closing this chapter of DBA gaming.

sneakgun21 May 2016 4:39 p.m. PST

Why doesn't someone or someones take it over?

79thPA Supporting Member of TMP21 May 2016 6:49 p.m. PST

Are you volunteering?

mikeygees21 May 2016 6:56 p.m. PST

It is a bummer. I could always count on it being there whenever I would gravity back into the DBX atmosphere…

abelp0122 May 2016 3:27 p.m. PST

Sad. Excellent resource for Ancient era gamers, not just DBx.

Twilight Samurai22 May 2016 9:00 p.m. PST

It has been a great boon for all those interested in DBA and Hott, where will they be without it?

Cambria562223 May 2016 9:58 a.m. PST

Shame, I was a regular user back in the days when I played DBA. It was a great resource.

Useful sites come and go. Fanatics is (and soon was) the best for DBA. There had been Rec.games and the Electronic Hoplite that have gone. Now we still have the TMP DBx thread, Yahoo, and there is a DBA FaceBook page, and some DBA Google site. Those do not have all the useful sections that are on Fanatics, but still allow for discussion of issues and ideas.

How can all the useful information on Fanatics be saved? I use the army list descriptions every couple of weeks, and likewise the other sections in the Resources section. This will be lacking in any of the discussion options I mentioned.

Skeptic23 May 2016 9:21 p.m. PST

Short of somebody maintaining it as a "live" site, what about keeping it running as a static or frozen site, i.e. no new posting, but the information remains available?

Boomcoach25 May 2016 9:07 p.m. PST

If Chris would give permission, it wouldn't be hard to host a static mirror of the site, without the forums. I don't know how much would be involved in maintaining a static copy of the forum.

I downloaded a copy of the site for my own reference, it runs about 300 MB.

Big blow to DBX in general. Comes at an odd time as introduction of DBA 3.0 has rekindled interest esp. in historical battles. New Great Battles Book with a whole set of historical battles for DBA 3.0 has done much better than we (the historically biased authors) had dreamed.

Wave of good news re DBX now hits the rock of Fanaticus fading.

Some of us are already discussing creating alternative. Meanwhile of course we always have the DBX section of the Miniature Page.

Try looking on the Wayback machine archive.org

Gentlemen,

The alternative is already up and running since a week.

The site is a "spitting image" with all the familiar subject areas; Gaming, Discussion, Rules, How To and DBA Alternatives.

The former "Resource" section is being compiled in the new DBA Wiki.
