Quick question; What time did the Union 2nd & 3rd Divisions of Doubleday & Robinson get to Seminary Ridge to reinforce the 1st Division? Been looking through all my reference books & online, & drawn a blank other than vague mentions about 11ish-12ish. Am putting on a scenario of Heth v Reynolds in a few weeks time, so be much appreciative of any assistance …. |

My understanding is that they arrived about 11:30 and were set for battle by noon. One piece of the confusion might be that Doubleday had arrived earlier and assumed command when Reynolds was killed and Rowley had temporary command of Doubleday's division. (Assume Doubleday went back to leading the division when Howard with the 11th Corps assumed overall command) Rowley's two brigades supported Meridith's flanks (Stone on the right by the Cashtown Pike and Biddle to the left out to the Haggerstown Road. Robinson's two brigades (Paul and Baxter) were placed in reserve up by the Lutheran seminary. Information is from a Souvenir Guide to the National Park – not sure it is the best source – but it is one I use to supplement the Fire and Fury scenarios. |

Doubleday himself as noted was on the field by 11 to assume command after Reyndolds was killed about 10:30 or so At that time Wadsworth's Division was the only Union infantry division on the field Doubleday's Corps arrived at noon (say 12) just after the Corps Artillery |

Cheers guys, just what I needed. Am running it from 07:30 when the first shots startled the columns on the Chambersburg Pike, to 12:15 when the 3rd Division arrives on Seminary ridge Having gone to town on the research & Reference books, am quite looking forward to running the opening encounter outnumbered Cavalry & helpful terrain v unsuspecting Confederates in considerable strength. Can the Cavalry hold out until the 1st Division arrive …? |
