Dear gentlemen , I have been asked by Arthur , Stan, Jack and Rhandi ( a good friend originally from Madras and is waiting on verification to the Guild ) to ask a few questions about this wonderful innovative set of rules . The boys can't get enough of it ,and are at it at every opportunity . They have dropped the Lional Tarr's rules after 40 years . Even pickled eggs , faggots and Owd Rodger barley wine have taken a backseat to this challenging exciting game . As they are a little long in the tooth they find it a little hard to grasp new concepts . Stan has just worked out how to put the dishwasher on after 20 years . Jack still can't switch on a computer without some unsavoury sites coming up . If a unit is already pinned and has to take another morale test due to further casualties and throws a high score does it unpinn itself , without having to rally by taking a Battletoken ? Inexperienced units what is their weaknesses if any besides a harder Unit Exp test ? What are the difference between troop qualities , besides Vet, Elites having a better chance on Morale/UET test and Elite re roll if any ? Can a unit on a reaction order ( if not activated ) carry this over to the next turn ? A unit that fires in previous turn in cover does it get observed as fired in the next turn ? The boys will come back with anything else that comes up . I thank you in advance for any help . Cheerio Olive |

Battlegroup is a great game. One of the few rule sets I actually play rather than just own. The best place to get answers I have found is here: link Go through the frequently asked questions threads first. There is also a search function. The author of the rules is quick to respond to most queries |

1 – If a unit is pinned, takes a morale test and gets a six, it can try for a Call of Duty test, if successful, the pin is removed and it gets a 'free' go. 2 – Inexperienced troops suffer on the morale table, have a harder experience test and give less BR. 3 – Veterans and elites have it better on the morale table, better experience tests, the elite reroll and more BR. 4 – Yep, Reserve Move and Ambush carry over if not used. 5 – Yep if it fired in the precceding turn its observed as firing. |

Is the battlegroup overlord expansion still available somewhere, even in pdf? I managed to find a copy of the kursk rulebook today. But I really like normandy playground? |

Overlord is sold out with PSC, but other retailers still have it… I know Northstar had some. It will be out on PDF soon. |

Thanks Piers for the info. I tried it out on northstar but no luck. I found it on a dutch website. I've ordered it immediately. Very curious to see the book next week. Thanks again and love your work! |

Olive, I do not play these rules and this may come off as a bit of an odd comment, but I just have to say that I found your writing and diction to be quite a treat. |

Dear gentlemen . An update and much thanks from the boys . Stan, Jack , Arthur and Rhandi are really enjoying this great set of rules . They are nearly at It at every opportunity give or take shift work . Natty " Taffy " Roots who works with Stan and Jack who has never wargamed before was overwhelmed and exclaimed in enjoyment " Lion of Judah , praise holy Jah , jamtown blessings " . Regarding these exceptional talented rule writer as modern day prophets the polite and engaging ,sophisticated Hibernian Mr Piers , the tall rugged Mr Warwickshire. They tend to not complete a game in an evening , as they don't play the point system because they want to get as much kit on the table as possible. Rhandi always brings along a mouthwatering King Prawn lentil vindaloo which you could say backfires . The rules have inspired them to up their game . As they are little long in the tooth , 20 mm is less rewarding as they can hardly see their beautiful AB figures . Jack says this is down to all his educational naturalists magazines he had around the time of Nana Mouskakas first ground breaking tour . So they are to game the rules in 1/35 . Jack is already working on a Tamiyla PZ 1V , and Stan is paying a fellow in Russiia to paint resin figures . Their gaming area will be 13feet by 7 feet . The games will eventually invole 4 to 6 German vechicles and a full platoon (44 figs with supports ). The British up to 9 vechicles and maybe 60 figs . Do you think the gaming area is enough to give a pleasurable experience ? How much would you increase distances , ranges etc ? Would you adapt the rules in any way else for this larger scale ? Arthur says size does not matter but Jack is not so sure . These rules have been inspiring and brought the boys out of their comfort zone . Stan would like to post the odd picture but as he has only a Polaroid from his days in the local men only photography club above the " kings Head " which he tells us was highly rewarding experience , I am not so sure , Once again much thanks from Stan , Jack , Arthur , Rhandi and Natty . Well Olive my old fruit, I'd try doubling all ranges and distances first, the table sounds a good size. If too much, try 1.5 on all distances but not as easy for my brain to compute as quick. That might give a good feel at 1/35th and that's just the sought of madness I adore… |
