On how many occassions did Napoleon threaten war unless the other party did what he said? The threat could be explicit or strongly implied.

I'll post this just to see if someone will post a serious answer.

One more than he should have…

I am reading Iron Kingdom by Christopher Clarke, and there are at least 2 he gave to the Prussians in the 1808-1812 period.

In August 1811 Napoleon demanded an end to the augmentation of the Prussian Army or the French Ambassador in Berlin would be replaced by Marshal Davout at the head of an army.

The offensive alliance imposed on Prussia on February 24th 1812 was also based on the choice of the Grand Army entering Prussia either as a foe or friend.

Schroeder catalogs much more in his Transformation of European Politics, but the pro-Napoleonic faction on TMP does not recognize him as a valid historian for the pre-1815 period. Not sure what their position on Clark is.

So depending on the posters politics, Napoleon issued none, or issued them quite often.

Napoleon gave an ultimatum to Britain in 1803. I remember reading that he gave an ultimatum to Prussia in 1806 that the Prussians had to fulfill their agreement to occupy Hanover or face war – is that correct?

How so? I mean, do Napoleon's words not speak for themselves? The fact of Napoleon's ultimatum in 1803 (the one I'm most familiar with) isn't really debateable. That doesn't imply that Napoleon was right or wrong to issue an ultimatum on any particular occasion.

On the Hanoverian ultimatumn. At least from Iron Kingdom its not clear if he gave an ultimatumn to Prussia. I will have to look at my Schroeder.

On the other point. Certain people would claim Napoleon was the one faced with Ultimatums in all those cases. Or that he was morally right to issue them. Or that they were not really ultimatumns but statements of situation. The Napoleonphilia will lead to such a view of the data.

You are correct, of course.

obviously Napoleonophobia can also lead to blinders on the question as well.
