"Used by the Marines as a fighter-bomber, the Vought F4U Corsair was loaded for action with eight .50cal machine-guns and was capable of carrying up to 900kg of bombs or rockets. It was the first American fighter to surpass the Japanese Zero in performance and remained in service well after World War II."

the Vought F4U Corsair was loaded for action with eight .50cal machine-guns

I wonder how much effort they put into research and editing. Every source I've seen on the Corsair says it had 6 .50 cals, not 8 (or replace the .50s with 4 20mm).

But it's a nice looking miniature of a beautiful plane.

Love this plane, but grew up watching Black Sheep Squadron.

My thought as well. Thunderbolt had 8. Corsair 6.

There was a dual .50 ball mount for the tail gunner.

I built 1/72, 1/32, and 1/48 scale kits of this plane when I was a boy. I just liked the shape of the wings and the beautiful dark blue color of the upper surfaces.

And I am pretty sure it only had 6 .50 caliber machine guns.

Glad you like it my friend.

I had forgotten about the version they collaborated on with the Boulton Paul company. evil grin

I think the word eight is just a mistake. The model only has three gun ports on each wing.

Cheers, Ade.

For the record, 6 X .50 Calibre MG or (much less often) 4 X 20 mm Cannon.

And nobody mentioned that the box says 6x50cal machine guns?

Cock-up over conspiracy…

dogtail25 Jul 2024 11:28 a.m. PST

According to japanese sources it clearly felt like eight
