I played 5 hours today.

Those that have played Pardox games will know they are big, deep and complex!!

Luckly I have played enough 4x space games to help me. This is also aperantly the most aprochable of the pardox games.

I've not been wiped out of given up in 5 hours, thats about 4 hours longer then any other paradox stratgy game.

You have to control 3 "resources" Energy crystals, minirals and influence, Energy crystals and minirals is procured by building mining stations around plantets and planitoids. And making buildings on planets you own.

Influence is gotten though being a dick to other races and verious other stuff.
You also have 3 other "resources" those are the 3 diffrent reseach resources. Physics, engineeirng and all other science stuff.

You can always research all 3 types at the same time.
Also you have leaders, to use a science vessel to survey a system og planet, it needs a science leader, this is the same leader that does the general research.

Planets should have a govornor, who also can be research leader. Fleets and armies too should have leaders.
You do not have unlimted room for leaders, you can get more space for new leaders thrugh research.

As you do new research you get new buildings or can upgrade the older ones.

I Bleeped texted up, I had the option to research spacedook level 2 and destroyers, but choose something els. And it apears some research options are random, When you are finished with one, you get 3 new to choose from. But it's slightly random, so I didn't get my destroyer research for another 5 years… And then it took 3 years to research.
But I finnaly got them!

You start with corvetts, corrvets can only fit small weapons. And got 5 spaces for energy/armor/shields.
It's quite simple to build a new class of ships, you fir the weapons you can fit, the engines ect. And then you do a balansing act, how many shields can you get before you run out of energy. On my destroyers i got 3 shields, 3 fusion engines and 1 armor.

Weapons are 3 basic types Guns/cannons, Missles and energy. So quite standard 4x.
It's a simple rock papper scissor thing. Guns go through shields but have the shorest range. missles do the most damgage but can be shot down with PDs, and energy can't be counterd by PDs but are bad at penerating shields.
All this is to a certian degree, I noticed my type 2 deflectors stopped missles just fine.

You have a soft fleet cap, if you go over it cost you energy crystals.

Invasions are simply through as many troops as you can on the enemy planet.

I invaded a "post atomic" planet simply because I didn't find any other good ones.

It was easy "our weapons must seem like magic to them" was the quote I got.
The problem was that those damn bird people did not like beeing invaded. Even tho I'm a nice guy, with dierect democracy, even game our new broths the vote!!!
So they started a rebellion. That i can do three things with.

Bribe leader, suppress them or grant independence as a vassal.

The first two requiers influence!

I'll go more into the empire creation tomorrow!

Some pictures

Finnaly got my destroyers!

Me and another empire did an alliance and invaded our jerk neighbour.

When you go to war you set war goals. And normaly the enemy knows when its beaten. We have invaded and ocupied thier home world. So they should give up soon!

Combat is basic but more indepth then any of the other Praradox stratagy games out there.

Very eager about this one but sadly, I don't think it'll run on integrated Intel graphics :(

I read somewhere the fans have already produced a mod set in the 40K universe for this, if you're interested in that sort of thing.

darthfozzywig11 May 2016 5:15 p.m. PST

Thanks for the update. I'm pretty interested in this, especially since Civ VI isn't out until October. :)

Thanks for the update, ditto what darthfozzy said.

As far as I know the 40k mod is simply banners and color themes, no ships or races yet.
But they are talking about exporting the models from the new Battlefleet gothic.

I personaly hope for a B5 and Star trek mod, and to a lesser extent Stargate and Star Wars

Thanks for the AAR; still highly interested in the game. Is the initial release pretty stable in terms of bugs and issues?

I've had one crash in 11 hours of intansce gaming(11 hours in just two sittings)

I did notice something that might be a bug or not. As i mentioned my and my pal went ot war, the wargoals where to take 4 planets, Two ocupied two of them, but after the war started, a new faction rose up, and so two of the planets where no longer in the terrerry of our enemies. So even tho we had crushed him, i could not get peace as my pal demaded the two other plantes.

So for like sevral hundred years we where at war. He had no free planets, no fleets no nothing. Suddnely the war was over, I do not know why, as two of the planets where still not ours.

The only other problem I've noticed is that you can create "sectors" this creates an automated zone, the ai controls the planets in those sectors(you need to do this as you can only control 5(7) plants directly. Sadly the ai is stupid, and won't upgrade or build buildings. So the plants get stuck on low development unless you have upgraded the planets before you add them to a sector.

I've also noticed some new stuff with the ship bilder. Aperantly each ship is devied into 3 parts, and you can mix those parts as each part has atleast 3 variations.

Each part front/middle/back controls both weapon layout and shield/armor/power

So for example my battle ship can have two large weapons infort or 2 medium and 4 small ect. So each class can be varried alot more then I thought.
Also while I had noticed Large, Medium and Small weapon slots, this is also true for the other part. So you can place a shield in a large, medium or small space just like guns.

I am enjoying the game, also. I was doing very well, so I thought, last night, until I was blindsided by a race that had battleships, and I barely had destroyers.

The way the tech research works is interesting, but in this case I surely did not benefit from it as much as I thought.

New game tonight, after work.

My ally got my me into a war i could not win, luckely the enemy war goals where only in my allies terrirory.
So even tho two of my planets got ocupied, I didn't loose much.

But the ally of my enemy attack Earth Luckely I had two fleets therem, one 2k fleet and 1 5k fleet. Against the enemys 5k fleet.

I beat the enemy destroyed 5k worth of hardwhere, I lost 1k worth of hardwhere, Yet the game felt I had lost that battle..

The game I started last night has gotten off to a good beginning. I was able to find good colonizable planets from almost the first surverys that were completed.

This gave me a boost in research, and I am out ahead of most of my neighbors. There is one that s rated superior to me in the three difference aspects.

I now have 8 colonized planets, with 4 more that I can colonize, once I've built up a few of the ones I have.

The trick is to get frontier outposts built, and then add them to a sector, which allows you to build more outposts and so on.

I may be able to take a screenshot once I get home…but I am enjoying the game.

I bought this game and eight hours just disappeared. Then eight more. Oh god.

Currently playing ocean-world humans using a mod so that their starting world is a ringworld. Yes, that's a ridiculously broken start, but I'm still in the messing-around phase.

My other (more reasonable) game is basically slowly spreading mushrooms everywhere, species creation is great. Also, I keep finding Russell's teapot.
