It's aimed ay millennials and will have GAMING tables in the lobby.

BRILIANT marketing idea. Let's put up some posters for Cold Wars/Fall In and then host some games in their lobby.

Anyone want to spearhead this? C

They are also building a larger hotel in York, ready in August 2017. It's probably too late for Historicon, but might be a good idea for Fall In.

"It's probably too late for Historicon" I hope so, seeing how Historicon needs to stay in VA.

If it is anything near the size in that picture the ping-pong table will take up the entire lobby.

I think Hcon is in VA until the Host is redone, then all bets are off.

Ottoathome09 May 2016 1:18 p.m. PST

dear history gamer.,

Hcon is in VA until crack of doom.

Such statements of certitude are foolish.

One thing never changes and and that is change is always inevitable.

Disco Joe09 May 2016 6:52 p.m. PST

Ottoahome, I believe crack of doom is predicted for next year.

Ceterman10 May 2016 3:15 p.m. PST

I hope "The Crack Of Doom" NEVER comes!

Hope springs eternal, but change is a constant.

Maybe HCon will move back to the Host and then Fall In can move to Fredericksburg and Cold Wars to Sydney, Australia.

historygamer10 May 2016 5:34 p.m. PST

Sounds like a plan. :-)

historygamer10 May 2016 5:35 p.m. PST

Except FI doesn't make enough to afford Fredericksburg. I doubt Cold Wards does either.

My side yard is available. For a fee.

Misspelled words in the name almost always mean expensive.

I am struck by the incongruity of a hotel built for and especially catering to "Millenials" and the tourist-vacation culture of the Lancaster area, with its emphasis on "down-homey, folksy, and chinoiserie of the Amish persuasion. Millenials seem as able to disconnect from their phones, ipads, blackberries, or computers They'll stay at home and dial up pictures of the tourist sites. I just can't see them trapsing around to the local flora and fauna so I wonder who is really going to stay there.

The Lancaster area caters overwhelmingly to lower middle class families vacationers with lots of kids that have to be entertained, fed, and housed. I don't see Lancaster as a mecca for millennials. My suspicion is that after a year or two it will be another tour bus hotel.

Otto-
There is a little bit of a Millennial Renaissance going on in the city of Lancaster. I don't know that it is very large at this stage but I have seen an influx of younger, college grad/professional types and some corresponding businesses. Couple that with the cost and safety issues of traveling abroad and the fact that the Lancaster County area has some touristy attractiveness as a destination or a passing through option.

Otto, you may have it backwards (sadly). The Tru by Hilton may seem out of place, but that's because it's only the beginning. The days of the Dutch Wonderland (and the gestalt surrounding it) are numbered.

I've been to a few restaurants in downtown Lancaster that are definitely oriented towards millenials, so as Edmuel2000 says, this new place may be the next logical step. My brother has lived on the west side of Lancaster for the past 15 years and likes it there – very affordable. I could see the city trying to lure businesses to the area due to the affordability and in turn attracting more young people that the hotel would cater to.

Between this place and the new Fairfield Inn, the Host has a lot more palatable lodging nearby…hopefully the Host itself will be able to step up their game to match.
