Volume 1
"Personal narratives of the careers of Napoleon's soldiers of the First Empire are not common in English translation nor are they so devoid of interest to the modern student of the Napoleonic Wars as to be unwelcome or ignored. Thiébault's military recollections fill two substantial volumes and it is worth noting that the English language translator, Butler, was the same person who brought the exploits of the real Brigadier Gerard, Marbot, to English readers. Thiébault joined the army of the Revolution in 1792, serving in both the armies of the Rhine and the North. By 1795 he had risen to the rank of adjutant to Solignac in Italy. In 1801 he was promoted to General and at Austerlitz commanded a brigade and was wounded in the Pratzen plateau assault. He then served extensively throughout the Peninsular War and subsequently as an infantry division commander in Germany in the campaigns of 1813 and 1814 which led to the fall of Napoleon. In 1815 he rallied to his master's banner and commanded at the defence of Paris at the close of ‘the One Hundred Days'."

Yes, several times. I have the Worley Press hardcover editions. This autobiography covers a large period in French history starting with his childhood (where he met Mr Mesmer) through the Revolution and the Peninsular War to Waterloo.
He was a keen observer and never quite won Napoleon's favor.
I find them extremely entertaining. Lots of insights into the court of Napoleon. Recommended.

I found them interesting…the first volume focuses mainly on his experience during and just after the French Revolution. I found his experiences dealing with Bethier particularly illuminating…he is not a big fan and if you believe him Bethier was something less than the brilliant alter ego of Napoleon…he was a small minded bureaucrat given to letting his personal prejudices govern his treatment of the officers he was responsible for assigning.

this is seemingly a loop posting, appearing again and again from Tango, it is possible to download those volumes for free on the net and one is also able to print them out – unabridged, 5 volumes

Also of interest – providing a lot of back ground information about Thiebault

That's an awful lot of printing out if one wanted to go that way.

Personally, I always prefer an actual book in the hand to reading something online. And the paperback prices are not high either and they are certainly on my to-get list.

I have to admit I prefer the books… and don't know why… but all times I cannot access to the "free read" books you boys mention… so, I buy the book.

I also want to have in my library…

So, a matter of taste my friend, not a crime to show them…

You should make people aware that you can download for free and hint – hint – you can print a pdf file and read it from paper.

so give them the choice – I would be cheesed off finding out that a free download was available.

Tango0111 May 2016 11:00 a.m. PST

Well… I'm not aware that there are or not free download of those my friend… I always point them when I know that… but I would tried to write that maybe there are free download books of all of them… I would tried to remember that.
