Not rolled a d6 in anger for 8 years. I expect to be solo once I get going again. |

Probably 90%. I like being able to setup a game and play a turn or two as I have some free time. It's a leisurely approach, I admit. |

I have what I consider two distinct modes of play: Playing … roughly 3/10. We have one big game day a month with half a dozen to a dozen people playing, and SWMBO and I (and the kids, if they're home) will play about two games a week otherwise. Once or twice a month, those will be solo games instead. When I write scenarios, I like to playtest parts of them, then give them a run through solo three or four times (with refocused part testing) before having people playtest them about a dozen times (which may lead to one or two more full, and a handful of partwise playtests solo). These overlap a bit, as I will have SWMBO and I (+ optional kids) do a first playtest occasionally.

90% las las The $$/ plilosphocal question with solo games: Do I always win or always lose? |
hocklermp5 | 08 May 2016 12:44 p.m. PST |
100% with huge interruption after divorce from First EX hocklermp5 after 24 years together. I literally left my life in Houston, after 3 years in the what the Official Texas "Guidebook" called "The 2nd worse climate in Texas". The number 1 "Worst climate in Texas" was Amarillo. I literally left my life down there only bringing my books and some figures and models North to JoCo Kansas which I call "Occupied Territory" flying a Missouri State out front every day to irritate "Redlegs", "Jayhawkers", and very nasty old ladies. I spent the first 18 years of my life 1 block East of the Kansas State Line in a neighborhood that was like a village with 3 generations of families in a time and place that is gone forever. When I refer to "Redlegs" and "Jayhawkers" above it is in reference to the Border War that began in 1855 and ended in 1865, not really ending until Jesse James and company were exterminated in Minnesota and the Bob Ford, "The dirty little coward who shot Mr. Howard and laid poor Jesse in his grave" in 1882. Cheers, hocklermp5 |

The $$/ plilosphocal question with solo games: Do I always win or always lose? For me the best games are usually those where I feel like an observer. |
Henrix | 08 May 2016 11:36 p.m. PST |
5-10% Mostly to learn rules. A little more for board games, though. There are quite a few suitable for solo play. (Tiny Epic Galaxies is excellent for that, for instance.) |

50% overall, but 0% or 100% by game. If the guys I game with will play a game, I'll play it non-solo. If the guys will not play it, I will play it solo. This lets me play whatever game I want while still enjoying playing with my buddies from time to time. |

None, 0%. If I had to play solitaire, I would find another hobby. I just don't see the point of going to all the trouble just for myself. At the very least I would go to the local game store and set up a game if not to play, then as a static display. But that is a lot of trouble. I am considering playing board games solitaire due to lack of local interest. Everyone just wants to play miniatures. |
