When you play a wargame and lose, would you say you are a 'good loser'? |
John the Greater | 06 May 2016 10:49 a.m. PST |
Lose? What is that word? I prefer to think I am a perfect gentleman when the game results in me suffering a "non-victory result." After all, the guys with the "victory result" tend to be friends of mine. |

I think so. I go into a game with the notion that I will be crushed. Inner peace through lowered expectations. |
Fat Wally | 06 May 2016 11:02 a.m. PST |
Yes. However, to be fair I have a lot experience of it. |

I enjoy winning but don't get all that upset about it. I can always blame the dice. |

I get in a game with the intention of winning but I don't mind loosing as long as it was a fun game. Fun with friends, lots of laughs and teasing back and forth is what makes a fun night, whether I win or lose. |

No, my mommy always told me I was a winner! Damon. |

Losing is what I do best--which makes my wins ever so much sweeter. But if I ever lose track of the fact I'm playing a GAME with TOY SOLDIERS, and behave badly when I lose, I deserve to be as lonely as I'm going to be. Yes, I'm a Good Loser, and I hope only a Better Winner. TVAG |

I think so. Just got whupped really badly a few weeks ago in a Punic War game. My Romans went down to epic defeat. I still had a good time as I love the rules and period. My buddy Ed is great to play with. We always have a good post game discussion. I think I handled it quite well. |

I play Skaven and other underdogs, so, yeah, I *have* to be a good loser. (To be fair, my Skaven either win big or lose even bigger.) |

I am the best loser. I am so good at losing, if I were able to make money by losing I would be a billionaire by now. In re my attitude about not winning wargames, I enjoy the game no matter what. If my opponent's unarmed baggage followers annihilate my elite Guard Knights, I celebrate because it was a spectacular against-the-odds victory. If I come out on the bottom, as I usually do, I am still happy to have had the time to show off my miniatures and socialize. |

Being a good and gracious loser is the best training for being a good and gracious winner! If you can't lose with a smile on your face, and a warm handshake for the winner you probably need to find something else to do with your life!! |
hetzer | 06 May 2016 6:29 p.m. PST |
I always assumed that was why I was invited to play in the first place. |
Jeigheff | 06 May 2016 6:38 p.m. PST |
Usually, I think. I must lose at least half the time. I confess that I haven't always responded well to gloating, even if I'm on the winning side with others who gloat. One more thing: it's one thing to lose. It's another thing to lose vvvvvvvvvveeeeeeeerrrrrrrryyyyyy ssssssssllllowwwwwwwlllllllyyyyyyyy in a slow-moving game. I feel annoyance at first, and then resignation. I can see defeat coming and know I can't avoid it. |
Clash957 | 06 May 2016 8:28 p.m. PST |
I think it largely depends on my opponent whether I am a good loser or not. Super competitive opponents who always take a cheesy or optimum list or tries to push the rules in their favor on every little thing make me just give a halfhearted good game and nothing more. Players with unpainted stuff after weeks of games, cause me to be a rather bored opponent win or lose. Which I think makes me a less gracious loser than I should be as I didn't really care one way or the other. Perhaps the stupidest way I can sometimes be a poor loser is when I am playing the "good guy" army of the setting. I try to keep some separation, but sometimes when, say playing WWII Americans, I take the game a bit too serious to be the best sport I can be and just enjoy the game. I find it strange that, by and large, I enjoy games where I am playing the "bad guys" since I have the mindset that I want I kinda want my force to lose, but I am not going to give the win my opponent a still try my best to win. All the above radically changes based on my opponent. I always have fun gaming with my non-gamer friends win or lose. There are a couple of gaming acquaintances just know how to make a game fun too. I once had a game with one of those who eliminated my entire force down to literally one man in which I had a blast playing. |

Often, someone else at the table achieves the victory conditions for the scenario. I don't consider that a lose. I've only lost a couple of times. I like to think I sucked it up and played it out without disrupting others' enjoyment of the game. |
Rrobbyrobot | 07 May 2016 5:11 a.m. PST |
In the past four years I've won so seldom I actually have kept track. Of my wins. I've won some 25 games in that time. This while playing at least one game a week with friends. Often two games a week. So, others would say I'm a very good looser. I say my dice hate me… But I have absolutely no trouble finding an opponent. I'm good for their morale. |

I dunno about the rest of you, but I game with a bunch of friends who are a delight to be with, love the hobby, are easy-going, genial guys who love fun and have a good sense of humor. I've won already even before we start the game. |
