Just wanted to post my planned events for Historicon. I am actually running a themed event for the first time ever at an HMGS con….with a massive Cavalry battle! Battle at Nicaea: First Cavalry Battle of the First Crusade Theme game Medieval 4 hours 6 Players GMs Rod Cain and Glen Cooley
T-358 Thursday 7PM S-389 Saturday 1PM Scale: 25mm; Rules: Triumph! WAR fast play ancient and medieval battles; No. of Players: 6. May 1097AD – Kilij Arslan had already crushed the rag tag army that was the first wave or the People's Crusade. Now he faced the second wave – not just a bunch of peasants. It was led by some of the most powerful warlords of Europe; leading powerful armies of mounted knights. Nicaea now under siege sends an urgent plea for help and Kilij Arslan answers with a massive mounted force of his own. These two forces meet outside the walls of Nicaea in the largest mounted battle of the First Crusade. Rules are easy to learn and will be taught by the GM as needed. Armies will be provided. No players under 14 without adult supervision please. Some of the troops for this battle:

Can whe get an OB listing of the armies involved ? |

I have the commands split into roughly three equal forces per side. This is strictly to accommodate three players per side with enough troops. In terms of figures The Crusaders representing the forces of Bohemond, Raymond, and Godfrey have: 45 Knights 48 Spear 28 Crossbow 12 Bow Levy 15 Rabble 7 Horde The Rum Turks of Kilij Arslan: 18 Elite Cavalry 42 Horsebow 12 Cataphracts 9 Bow Levy 18 Light Infantry |

looks really good! how big is the table? |
Dervel | 06 May 2016 12:31 p.m. PST |
Thanks Stew… using about 9 feet in that shot. The Mat is 12 feet so I may open it up a little to give the Horsebow more room to maneuver on the flanks. Also, here is a better list of the events using the same Triumph! Rules: T350 10AM Caesar in Gaul Walk-up T353 2PM Clash of Empires Scenarios T358 7PM Battle of Nicaea F386 9AM Caesar in Gaul Walk-up F388 1PM Clash of Empires Scenarios F354 6PM Medieval German Campaign S387 9AM Caesar in Gaul Walk-up S389 1PM Battle of Nicaea S355 6PM Punic Wars Campaign The rules are very easy to learn and players can run the game off a single QRS after a few minutes of explanation. |

thanks. so a 9 x 4 table? the width looks a little shallow for a cav battle. but that all depends on the angle of the shot, how far cav move, and game design. a game for 4 hours probably needs some fast and furious action. still, it's a nice set up. the caslte walls look good too. |

Thanks Stew, the Castle wall is homemade :) The fastest troops on the table (Horsebow) go the length of the orange rulers you see on the table. Most everything else is slower including the other mounted. |

Are these rules only for scenario games, or are they used for tournament play as well? Where are they available? Thanks |
Dave Schlanger | 06 May 2016 10:55 p.m. PST |
The rules can be used for a variety of different kinds of events. You can ask me for the rules offline, if you would like them. |

Bob, These rules work great for tournament play, campaigns and scenarios. They are not publically available yet, but David can help you if you are really interested? |

Very cool Dervel, love seeing medieval games at the cons! I will have to check your game out. I am also interested in your rules. Allen |

Allen, Thanks…. I really enjoy the medieval period for both painting and playing. I think the first session is misprinted as 15mm for my game. It is definitely 25mm as my aching back can attest. Please do come and check it out and pre-register if you have a specific time slot you want. We will be doing walk up demos of the rules all weekend but I am really looking forward to the campaigns, which are a blast. The campaigns are F354 and S355. Armies will be provided on a first come first serve basis. Because a typical small battle with these rules only takes about an hour or less, you can play through a series of campaign battles in the time frame you would normally spend for one event. Hopefully we will get a sneak peak at the campaign maps soon…! |

I can see you are putting a lot of great effort into getting this ready. Layout and figures look great! Thanks for posting the listing of events. I will be interested in trying out these new rules in one of those time slots. |

Joe, That would be great, would be happy to have you demo the rules. Also, I will have mats at Historicon for your event as well. I plan to be there Wednesday night so we need to connect when you arrive. Rod |
