I have started painting the allied legions for this project. There is a photo of the two legions based and undercoated. There is also a brief review of the Armies of the Macedonian and Punic War by Duncan Head. This is a re-print of the 1982 edition, but with added text and supplementary bibliography to reflect 30 years of research on this topic. link Cheers, Robert |

The Legion bug has bitten me as well. I am thinking about doing another with 3mm figures for a mass effect. Your figures look great but I have always had problems with the visual effect of DBA re: Legions. The Legion does not work out to 10 cohorts plus auxillia and the number of figures does not provide the mass effect I would like. Having said that DBA is still a blast and my 15mm Legion will solder on. |

Allen57, Page 14 of DBA 3.0 gives a recommended scale of +/- 500 per element which gives an approximate strength of a cohort. Eleven blade, counting the first cohort as two elements, would make up your full legion. Add 1 artillery and 10 auxilia plus cavalry and two commanders would bring your total to 24 elements or two DBA size armies or 11,000 fighting troops. Match them against 18,000 barbarians (36 elements), but with two commanders, you will have a good punch-up. "Let us die killing Romans!"
