…We Thought?. "Who would voluntarily breathe in radioactive gas? These days, there are people who do. They swear by the notorious noble gas radon, created by the decay of uranium: They inhale it deeply. Most believers in the healing qualities of radiation are suffering from a chronic inflammatory disease: arthritis, asthma or psoriasis, for example. The gas, they argue, alleviates their problems for months, which is why they lay in bubbling radon water offered by some healing spas. In Bad Kreuznach, in the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate, brave spa guests even trek into the tunnels of an abandoned mercury mine, attracted by the radon-filled air in the mountain. Are they crazy?
As has now become clear, these people are right: Radioactivity is good for them…" Full article here link So, let's send the bombs!… (smile) Amicalement Armand |

Thanks for posting this link. It's unusual to find a factual article that presents both sides, especially when the topic is radioactivity. This one covered all the relevant points. As a person who deals with DOE safety rules that affect a moderately sized accelerator, I have always marveled at the great attention given to ensure no one receives an unintended radiation dose, no matter how minute, whereas the most hazardous stuff is the electrical equipment and our greatest portion of injuries is due to slips, trips, and falls. |

Had an article on people seeking health benefits from high doses of radon (hundreds of working levels) posted on the bulletin board of the mine i worked at 35 years ago. At the time our exposure was limited to one working level year. Reality of course was that smoking in high levels of radon gas is bad news. Exposure to radon otherwise not so much. Too many xrays or too many high altitude flights are of more concern. |
