Any chance we can get this thread up to 1,000?

Pumpkin Head P28 Oct 2005 3:45 p.m. PST

Okay here is my question for the group. People are bashing GW for thier prices and the way they do business. Okay! But what about those that hire themselves out to GW for the big bucks. Such as the Perry's. Now they are probly the best sculpters in the world in my opinion. They work full time for GW. But yet those who gripe about GW praise the Perry's but yet they make thier living charging GW high prices for working full time for them as do other scupters that we like. I dont get it boys!!!!

Pumpkin Head P28 Oct 2005 3:46 p.m. PST

By the way I own Perry figures and love them but they are to expensive in my opinion.

Sargonarhes17 Nov 2005 4:18 p.m. PST

I do not follow the work of sculpters, to me that is like following the work of actors and musicians. They do good work in many things, but I'm not going to buy everthing they put out just because it's their work. Fact is they don't put out 100% effort on everything, no one does.

So who really cares if Perry has worked for GW, I sure don't. And I'm not currently interested in Perry's work right now.

I can't let this fine thread die, not after having read it all from the start!
Dislike (Hate too strong a word, i'm not wasting emotions on GW):Nearly everything
Like: The easy customizability of the plastic figs, and some are good sculpt; i only get mine from ebay or sales, nonetheless…

Site 815 Dec 2005 1:32 p.m. PST

I'm still wondering what the prices will be like in the year 2020-its only forteen years away. i remember paying 7.50 for two grey knight terminators in the early 90s. 2005 its 10 per fig. will it be 20-30 bucks per(plastic) fig in the not so near future? 4 cents in raw materials.

I once had the misfortune of working in a plastic factory and the raw material cost for one piece was about a quarter cent for a product quadruple the size of one Terminator.

GW hates poor people and non white people and girls.
Their fans have an unheathy neo nazi hatred of anything not warhammer related. I have witnessed this as many of you folks probably have as well.
If you carefully examine the armies and behavior paterns of the fanboys you will see the above is true.
And why is it that nobody hacks the GW site? Seems like every(Reaper to name just one) company except games workshop gets hacked

Hmmmm. Very classy.

Anybody Know what the hourly wage of one of their store workers makes? probably on par with Walmart.

It seems to some people that the free market justifies anything, you lot don't seem that keen on china selling nuclear techology or the write of comsumers to buy LSD( which i think some of you lot may have been spiked with).
They abuse a monopoly position and they conduct sharp pratice to keep and strengthen that monopoly position, and they rip off young kids who don't know any better- most kids don't have wargamers for parents. For the rest off you who shop there- i guess you can fall some of the people all off the time. not the most illmoral pratice, but i still still don't like people who get rich (or even make a living) in that manor, and GW are dumbing down our culture and i hate people who do that!
But what i truely hate are the psycophants attracted to them.
What i

Given the crap with Battlewagon Bits recently, should we dust off this thread? Seems to be a lot of the debate going on on the front page has been batted about pretty thoroughly on here already.

Miniature Freedom12 Apr 2007 2:56 p.m. PST

My god, this page took a lot to open.

Well, some people here at my country tried to play Warhammer some 9 years ago with no success. People bought some boxes and I even painted some figures on a starter set. Thatīs all, nobody played and some figures remained unpainted. People here are lazy and prefer prepainted on booster stuff.

Do I hate GW?

Yes for several reasons.

First, their choice to put out a good product but suddenly deciding to stop supporting it. EPIC, Man O War etc…

Second, their decisions to basically gut several of my armies to where they really cannot win unless I put certain models into them.

Third, their inability to write rules that are clear and concise.

Fourth, their inability to make or keep the armies balanced.

Fifth, their decisions to take years to put out new army books for the games. They have not written all of the books let for WFB and come this fall Edition 8 will be coming out.

Sixth, their business model of screwing over long time players since they would rather sell to 11-13 year olds.

Seventh, their prices today, for what I would pay for one figure today I got nearly 15 when I first brought GW stuff.

Eighth, their decision to turn a good magazine (White Dwarf) into a piece of crap.

Ninth, their decision to cut the range of the S. Catapult down 12" from 24" thus making Eldar Guardians nearly worthless.

Tenth, also at the same time taking away the Eldar Guardian ability to use Las Guns, which means that alot of my Guardians are technically illegal since they are armed with Las Guns.

I have many more reasons to hate them. I stop playing their games almost 8 years ago and my many armies are all sitting in their cases.

There is always Future War Commander ready and willing to let you play your favourite GW armies, only this time with a sensible set of rules that will not change and army lists that also will not annoy! I have converted my Epic stuff and at last have now begun to really enjoy the Imperium Universe and no spotty loud teenagers shouting – just middle aged men in slippers and tank tops sipping Horlicks.

As regards the Fantasy stuff – stuff it! Warmaster is much superior and the Warmaster Ancients spin off even better. Anyone want to buy my 28mm Bretonnians at hyper-inflated prices?

This is reply #666 to this topic (for those who like to keep track of such things…. evil grin)

Farstar13 Apr 2010 2:10 p.m. PST

Mithmee basically covered it without me having to dig through the other 13 pages.

…but I skimmed them anyway.

Five years ago (on Page 1), The Editor said:

The simpler explanation is that they make changes in each edition to try to improve the game. We may not like the improvements… or maybe we just don't like change.

This is a good example of what I consider wrong with/at GW. The games are, in general, at least acceptable at their cores, but GW insists and persists in breaking their own games in the details. Army books are the problem most of the time. Each new edition attempts to fix what has built up. Maybe a given edition actually succeeds at this. Within a very few new army books, however, GW will break the new edition, spend the rest of the edition covering it up with more breaks, then hit the rest button *again* and start over.

In the end, it isn't that GW makes and sells games, or even markets them aggressively. Its that they assume youth and stupidity in their customer base; a customer base that is engaged in a fundamentally brainy/nerdy hobby.

Mehoy Nehoy23 Apr 2010 1:57 p.m. PST

WFB 3rd Edition wasn't broken. It was a solid, self-contained game that didn't require a shelf full of army lists. That was a problem for a big company with a lot of running costs.

GW may make changes to improve a game, but mainly the changes are just to keep the purchasing cycle rolling. There are a lot of parallels with the software industry – if you're, say, a designer who uses InDesign or QuarkXpress or whatever, you become locked into a constant cycle of upgrades, whether you need them or not, to stay in line with your clients and suppliers. Sound familiar?

Bayushiseni24 May 2011 7:08 a.m. PST

Oooh Shiny. I'll be the one to put the first 2011 comment in this wonderful thread where I only read the first two pages…

There must be something about Mary… sorry… Games Workshop to generate so many pages.

Have I told you about the "who attacks first" problem of mine?

Nooo?! Here it goes, lads:

Well… My biggest complaint about Games Worship is with me since the dawn of the boxed edition of WH Fantasy Battles. And it all boils down to this:

If you charge a unit with spears you don't attack first! You just don't. You don't. Period!

That's it.

Really.

I traded to Fantasy Warriors after this notion entered my brain, still in the early '90s. I love some of the minis, but usually buy it second hand, and I don't like their posture. But hating? Nah!

No reason for that.
