I ran across this pic on the webbernet, and I'd like to use a similar scheme for my Horde of Evil. How do I paint the armor on this fella? I think I can achieve the skintone (though suggestions will certainly eagerly received), but I've not heard of a way to reliably obtain a really worn, rusted look for armor.

Heres the pic:

I've got notes on the technique I used for my undead. I'll find them and post them for you.

Paint the armor rusty orange. Dry brush or stipple on silver or other metallic paint. Give it a wash of brown ink. I recommend Agrax Earthshade by GW.

I do what chuck said, except I prime with a flat rust red then drybrush the orange.

Here is a guide I found years ago for painting GW Uruk-hai using GW paints. I use it for all rusty metals

Okay, enough drybrushing; time to stipple instead. Paint all the metallic areas of the model with a heavy stippling of Mournfang Brown. We are talking shields, swords, helmets, gauntlets, leggings, chestplates – everything that is metal! This coat of brown paint will
act as a layer of rust/beaten metal. Next, apply a solid coat of Rhinox Hide to any wooden handles or bows.

Time to finish up the metallic equipment. Go back over all the Mournfang Brown areas you just painted but this time with Leadbelcher . Give the armour, swords, and the like a good stippling of Leadbelcher. If you want a darker metal, mix in some Chaos Black with your Leadbelcher. You will see how the rusting effect comes to life during this step. Be sure to clean you water after using metallic paints, as tiny flecks will remain in the
water and spoil future colours. Once the metal is out of the way, finish the wooden parts of your models by highlighting with Dark Flesh.

Your local model railroad store has products for this.

Here's a tutorial that should help achieve the finished look seen in the OP pic.

Good luck.

My recipe: Vallejo Model Color's Bronze, Vallejo Model Wash Lavis Oxyde, Vallejo Earth & Oxide pigment and Vallejo verdigris glaze, in that order.
