Hello,

I was wondering if anyone here has experience painting 6mm Wehrmacht tanks/vehicles? Im struggling specifically with the camo patterns; mine turns out sloppy.

Thanks!

That's probably not too far from how they were anyway grin.

Over on the GHQ forum there's some good threads on painting 6mm AFVs, some of which also show WW2 German AFVs.

Here's a thread that might help with some input from the guys that paint the GHQ models pictured in the GHQ catalogue:

If you want some good references for German AFVs 'Panzer Colours' 1, 2, and 3 are pretty good but you may have problems getting a copy.

Basically upto 1942-ish they were grey and after that base colour of dark yellow with any combination of red(-ish) brown and/or green over the top.

They even applied the paint with brooms so you have free license to daub it on however you like grin.

And you can never put too much mud on them.

Experiment and have fun.

I use a sand color as the base (yellow just looks too yellow) then a dark green (forest green) and brown lines.

All of these are AC Moore bought paints and granted they are not going to win awards but they look fine on the game table.

Here's some stuff I painted. You may have to scroll up in the thread for some detailed shots of the Panther. I also detail how I accomplished the look further down from the pictures.

You have to do a little color shifting in 6mm to get it to look right. You're going to want some "brighter" colors than you'd use in say 15mm or 28mm modeling to get the contrast to look right.

And an airbrush helps, not critical, but definitely makes painting German armor camp patterns easier in almost any scale.
