Suetonius,

As I said a few days ago on your blog, magnificent work!

Out of curiosity, did you find some reference for the 66th Regt. wearing black puttees in Afghanistan? I've always read that they were brown, or a darker shade of khaki than their uniforms. After seeing your work on the new Perrys shown above, I will be buying some of the same to replace my current less historically accurate version of the Berkshires, so I'll be painting more puttees for the 66th at some point, and will want to get them as accurate as possible, so I'd really appreciate if you could let me know!

@Mad Guru
The Perrys state that there is some evidence the 66th wore blue puttees at Maiwand so I went for Vallejo Luftwaffe Blue.
But tbh I think khaki would be equally acceptable..

Cheers

SP,

Beautifully done! Would you mind providing a link to or a name for your blog? I would love to see more.

Thanks,

BR.

@Big Red

I don't really have a blog so I'm not entirely sure what Mad Guru was referring to. I've posted those on the Victorian Wars forum though mainly to get some info from the experts on the 'right' shade of khaki. I've posted a mini tutorial on how I paint them so this might still be of interest:

As soon as I have more to show off I will post it 8-)

Whoops -- sorry for confusion, Suetonius and Big Red, I should have said I had seen them over at the Lead Adventure Forum.

Re: blue puttees for the 66th at Maiwand… I'd always read that only the officers of the Regt. wore them (see the colour plate showing an officer of the 66th at Maiwand in the Osprey "The British Army of Campaign (3) 1856-1882"), but you never know. Anyway, what matters most is that your figures look absolutely fantastic -- great job on terraining their bases as well.
