Or Orruks, I guess.

I think they look pretty cool. I didn't like the newer Orcs from the 6th edition boxed set and on. They were cool enough figures but just looked too big. The new style from the Gorkamorka set worked for 40K for me but not for fantasy.

It didn't seem right that a human guy had the same strength as this musclebound monster he was fighting.

But these, these are massive and they work for AoS where everything is over the top anyway.

picture

They are really well sculpted figures. Especially the mounted ones:

The things they are riding are hideous, in a great way. I haven't had a 28mm Orc army since 2nd edition 40K. I do have a 10mm Warmaster force. I'll probably get at least a few of these as allies for my Ogre Kingdom army. I'm sure they will eventually morph into a force of their own.

This Shaman is just cool looking:

picture

I'm not sure what this guy is doing but when he sets those evil looking bowling pins up I bet you'll need at least a 18 lb ball to knock them over.

picture

This guy just looks nasty:

I'd probably do the armour in a rusted metal look. The yellow is pretty flashy but I'm not sure it works for me in fantasy for some reason. Maybe some red so that they can re-roll some of their run and charge rolls.

Looking forward to these.

darthfozzywig18 Apr 2016 10:53 p.m. PST

The first one and last one are both nuts! In a good way.

Agreed that they are over the top, but that's the intent.

Pictors Studio18 Apr 2016 11:00 p.m. PST

I really like the fat wyvern or wyvern-squig or whatever it is. It just looks brutal. The whole force looks brutal.

Mark RedLinePS19 Apr 2016 1:49 a.m. PST

Is it just me, or have they gone mad?

Lt Col Pedant19 Apr 2016 3:13 a.m. PST

Switch the chopper for a bolter and …

BattlerBritain19 Apr 2016 5:15 a.m. PST

Are these models for 40K or fantasy?

Bit difficult to tell.

Brandlin19 Apr 2016 5:21 a.m. PST

In a few pictures, everything that is wrong in my opinion with GW.

They set on a course where every new release and new variant has to be bigger and more cartoon like than the last. there is no discernible end to this.

Oh, and the 'lets highlight every edge up to white' painting style …. sigh.

Prince Rupert of the Rhine19 Apr 2016 5:25 a.m. PST

Have to admit most AOS releases have made me think ohhh 40k conversion…..at least until I see the price.

Extrabio1947 Supporting Member of TMP19 Apr 2016 5:37 a.m. PST

They need more skulls, don't ya think?

These are seriously way over the top. And I agree with comments regarding the painting style. These guys remind me of the psychedelic light shows at the Fillmore East. If you look too long, it hurts your eyes and gives you a headache.

Ping Pong19 Apr 2016 5:42 a.m. PST

I don't like yellow on these guys. Love the monster.

chuck05 Fezian19 Apr 2016 7:02 a.m. PST

Not a fan of the new look. The only one I like is the shaman but Im not paying $33 USD for a single pose plastic infantry figure.

Winston Smith19 Apr 2016 7:05 a.m. PST

Everything about them is just plain dumb.

The Beast Rampant19 Apr 2016 7:08 a.m. PST

The Liefeldian 'crosshatching' on the white dragony-thing is a turn-off, but the mugs on those boar-mount things are AWFUL.

More self-parody.

Prince Rupert of the Rhine19 Apr 2016 7:16 a.m. PST

yeah not loving the boars. The bottom guy would make a good 40K warboss in Evy armour though.

Garand19 Apr 2016 8:04 a.m. PST

I was never a fan of GW orcs or orks, either in fantasy of 40K. These just double-down on some of the aesthetic cues, especially from 40K. Not a single model I would want to buy…

Damon.

Cullen19 Apr 2016 8:17 a.m. PST

Ouch. These are ugly without being attractive, if that makes sense. Waste of time and materials. Shame.

kallman19 Apr 2016 8:21 a.m. PST

So GW is basically now trying to copy Warmahordes with over the top and over exaggerated models. I do like the squig-wyvern. I suppose this demonstrates how Privateer Press has taken a chunk out of GW's market share that the designs have moved so far to the outlandish.

HUBCommish19 Apr 2016 8:31 a.m. PST

Outstanding, best orc miniatures I've seen in recent memory. Well, maybe except for the mounts, they're a little funky. Might be the studio paint job though.

Out of curiosity, can any of you post links to your favorite fantasy orc miniatures lines? I'd like to see what you consider great miniatures sculpts.

Judge Doug19 Apr 2016 8:39 a.m. PST

This single release wave from GW will sell more in the same time period as every release from other miniature company combined.

Additionally man that Shaman is probably the coolest Orc shaman model ever made (with special mention to Wip the Half Cast from Mantic)

Judge Doug19 Apr 2016 8:40 a.m. PST

HUBCommish, I'm venturing to guess it'll be some old Ral Partha monopose orcs from 1978…

The Beast Rampant19 Apr 2016 8:55 a.m. PST

I'd like to see what you consider great miniatures sculpts.

I'm OK with anything that doesn't look like it's giving itself hemorrhoids trying to mash together World of Warcraft, Rat Fink, and 80's death metal album covers.

GW is now that Millennial assclown covered with graffiti and piercings in a desperate attempt to be a unique and beautiful snowflake. The end result is merely sad and revolting.

Nick Lund's Orcs still trump these.

Prince Rupert of the Rhine19 Apr 2016 9:52 a.m. PST

Personally I love Brain Nelson style Orc/Orks this is one of my all time favs

picture

Not all of these are hitting the mark for me I don't like the boars though the riders are fine. The first guy is a nice orc and a nice monster they just look crap and awkward put together. The two shamans aren't doing much for me at all. The guy at the bottom is cool but I'd lose the over the top skull shoulder pad.

The Beast Rampant19 Apr 2016 10:25 a.m. PST

Personally I love Brain Nelson style Orc/Orks this is one of my all time favs

Hey, that's actually the last 40K mini I bought "off the rack" (as opposed to older stuff from Ebay). Great mini (and I especially love the paint job on the pistol). Though the plastic boyz from that era has "gorilla asses", and I spent an inordinate amount of time cutting off their legs and swiveling their pelvis upward. "Bow-legged" is fine, it's a Tolkeineque standard.

Is it that obvious? grin

Marshal Mark19 Apr 2016 12:15 p.m. PST

I think these look ridiculous.

Out of curiosity, can any of you post links to your favorite fantasy orc miniatures lines? I'd like to see what you consider great miniatures sculpts.

I like the GW LOTR orcs. They look to me what I think orcs should look like.

Der Krieg Geist19 Apr 2016 12:27 p.m. PST

So the first orc guy is standing……chained to that beasty things back<with a row of back spines aimed at his groin, while wielding two hand weapons that he can't possibly reach any opponents with and……he has zero…none…zip…nada way to control said beast. Unless it can understand verbal commands. This stuff is not to my liking at all. I like imaginative stuff for sure, but it would need to better though out and better executed or else….I have to agree with what The Beast Rampant stated above….
the last one shown looks like his ax is either cut out of foot thick foam board or would weigh seven of eight hundred pounds if iron….. just dumb looking,to my eyes

Dogged19 Apr 2016 1:30 p.m. PST

Outstanding, awesome. Over the top? Pricing maybe, but not the minis themselves. Also, before somebody insists on blaming GW designers about copying Warmahordes and all that, they should take a look at 40K minis from the last ten years. That's where the inspiration can come from, much more than a blatant try to copy somebody else's designs.

These orcs look very alike orks, and paintjobs give them the definite Bad Moon look. The Sigmarines are also very obvious about their source. Design is very coherent along the line, in fact. Like them or not, think what we may about their pricing, they make great miniatures.

Definitely these orcs are different both from the cartoony orcs from WFB older editions and the Tolkien orcs. For me, regarding fantasy orcs and not liking the cartoony look, Mithril orcs are the best for Tolkien types, but for brutal loooking orcs GW has made the best with their black orcs, and these can be the best around.

Lucius19 Apr 2016 2:16 p.m. PST

LOL at the generational taste wars.

For the record, the 1978 Ral Partha orcs had 7 poses . . .

And I'm with Marshal Mark in liking the GW LOTR orcs more than these.

HidaSeku19 Apr 2016 3:28 p.m. PST

I think the first Orc Shaman looks very good.

The rest? Not to my tastes.

Mithmee19 Apr 2016 6:35 p.m. PST

Is it just me, or have they gone mad?

Yes, GW has gone mad. They did kill off WFB and replaced it with AoS.

David Johansen19 Apr 2016 6:43 p.m. PST

Really, for me the style is off putting. But then if you took my least favorite bits of kings of War, War Machine, and Warhammer and made them into a game you'd have Age of Sigmar.

So I'm not their target market. Who knew toddlers had that kind of money? Fisher Price I suppose.

IronMike19 Apr 2016 11:10 p.m. PST

I'm loving the armor that these guys are wearing: Parts of it looks like they're carved out of stone…

Puster Sponsoring Member of TMP20 Apr 2016 3:18 a.m. PST

Nice material for 40k conversions. I actually like all of these, though some more then others.

But … overpriced for me – though I did buy the TTW Gate and do own Titans – so its not the total price by value for money. GW just walked out of my sphere here :-(

Cosmic Reset20 Apr 2016 4:08 a.m. PST

Well, reading the thread, I guess that I'm obligated to complain about them them. So… they are entirely too big to work with my 15mm Germans or 6mm Soviets, and far too healthy for my post-apocalypse, but the paint is inspiring, and they look great. Thanks for sharing the pix.

Pictors Studio20 Apr 2016 6:41 a.m. PST

"Who knew toddlers had that kind of money? Fisher Price I suppose."

Classic! The fantasy toys I play with indicate that I'm more mature than people who would play with these.

Judge Doug20 Apr 2016 1:18 p.m. PST

Well, yeah, Pictors, if it was any other company producing these figures and the AoS ruleset, TMP would be heaping praise on it for "revolutionary plastics engineering" and "simple yet engaging rules"

Mithmee20 Apr 2016 1:26 p.m. PST

Well since I already have over 350 Goblins and around 180 Orks.

I do not see the need to get anymore at the price that GW is selling them now.

Their fantasy line is more like Warmachine now and really has nothing to do with Fantasy anymore.

Personal logo Flashman14 Supporting Member of TMP20 Apr 2016 2:11 p.m. PST

How much would you pay for one of each of the above?

Royal Liz20 Apr 2016 2:32 p.m. PST

I started playing Warmachine and hordes and sold off the figures I bought. I didn't really like them. Age of Sigmar is quite different. If you think they are like Warmachine you have not played one or the other of them.

How can a fantasy line not have anything to do with Fantasy.

But you certainly seem to have a fair number of models, probably no reason to get any more, what you have would make for a really big AoS game.

I'd probably pay about $10 USD each for the regular guys and maybe $25 USD each for those boar riders. They do look pretty cool. I have some of the orcs that I bought from one of the boxed sets. They are two piece plastics so I might get some of these. I haven't painted any of them yet and bought them cheap second hand.

I like these ones too though.

Sigh, Seraphon to build and paint first though.

noigrim20 Apr 2016 3:18 p.m. PST

Nice meganobz.

LOTR best orcs, why they should be simians?

Personal logo Doctor X Supporting Member of TMP21 Apr 2016 12:01 a.m. PST

I'll take Tom Meier's RP Fantasy Collector goblins from the late 70's/early 80's over any of these. They must be decent considering they brought them back.

Der Krieg Geist21 Apr 2016 2:54 a.m. PST

So I gave them a second look. I actually think GW is doing a great thing revitalizing their product lines. I have mountains of their older and classic stuff. These are really pretty cool and much more original. Won't buy them because of th prices but that is a different reason.

Judge Doug21 Apr 2016 11:22 a.m. PST

I agree Der Krieg Geist. I think they're cool as hell but I don't need them.

I also think LOTR orcs are the best orcs. Specifically, Isengard Uruk-Hai and Gundabad orcs from the Hobbit films. So much so that I'm guilty of buying the 24 or more Gundabad orcs in Finecast (at $25 USD for 3!) because their design is unparalleled.

wizbangs27 Apr 2016 7:15 a.m. PST

I liked GW's 6th edition Orcs the most and I am also a fan of Dragonrune's Orcs.

Maybe it's the paint, but these guys look like they're trying too hard to be Space Marines & they also remind me of Hordes miniatures. But, considering their game has gone in that direction I shouldn't be surprised.

Those beasts are awful. Their heads are so disproportionately big that they'd spend all of their time falling forward into their faces.

Judge Doug28 Apr 2016 9:24 a.m. PST

Seems like everyone loves GW's 6th edition Orcs!

The ones sculpted by Brian Nelson.

Seems like everyone universally loves Brian Nelson's orcs.

Totally gob-smacking prices !

wizbangs01 May 2016 5:39 a.m. PST

Brian Nelson is not a name that comes to mind when I think of Fantasy sculpts, but now I will commit it to memory and pay him the respect he is due.

I'll lift a glass to Brian Nelson's orcs this day! 🍻

… taken to its logical extreme

Utter balderdash.

Unless you assume the use of the word "logical" is either ironic/sarcastic, or it had slipped from the dictionary and strayed into a verbal neighbourhood it had hitherto considered to be only suitable for a visit in a moving vehicle with the windows firmly closed and its metaphorical finger poised over the personal alarm.

Nothing about these sculpts is logical, proportionate, sensible or probable. I have no problem with the suspension of disbelief. However I draw the line when my belief is subject to torture and plain old abuse.

Utter, utter [insert string of adjectives and nouns commensurate with extreme dislike and insults and relevant to your own cultural and philosophical norms… I choose] #€¥$@!!!
