Hi,
Did the Rhode Island Infantry Regts still have their smocks by 1865 or had they converted to standard sackcoats etc
Cheers G

I don't think the smocks lasted past Bull Run/Manassas.

I believe by 1862, all Rhode Island regiments were dressed in regulation uniform.

The only thing that the Rhode Islanders tried to hold onto was their red state-issue blankets. Same thing with the early Maine regiments as well.

Though the troops actually liked the smocks as comfortable, they weren't as well made as the issue coats/jackets, and were not lined, so were not useful when cold weather arrived.
