Can anyone point me to some good resources on the Caribbean campaigns of the Revolutionary and Napoleonic periods? Amazingly, I don't seem to have any books that cover this topic. I also can't find any. I get the impression that the Caribbean theater was actually pretty active, at least in the early years. I'd like to read in more detail about the course of the various expeditions and campaigns. - Ix |

James gives a pretty thorough account throughout the various volumes of: The Naval History of Great Britain. |

There are some chapters on operations in the West Indies in A. T. Mahan's "The Major Operations of the Navies in the War of American Independence". From the Internet Archive: link This thesis in the archives of the University of Chester is interesting: link The Project Gutenberg edition of Cooper Willyams' "Account of the Campaign in the West Indies in the Year 1794" is still available online: link |

"Dreams of Empire: Napoleon and the First World War" by Paul Fregosi deals with all the side campaigns, so you get the east and west Indies and points between. I really enjoyed reading it. link |

Google "Naval Review archive". Then go through the article lists. There are more than a few EXTREMELY good analyses of both campaigns and battles between the French and British among the Leeward and Windward Islands during the War of the American Revolution. Highly recommended. B |

Thank you gentlemen, for all for your excellent recommendations. I actually re-read the AWI naval campaigns in Mahan's first book approx. biannually. :-) Unfortunately, treatment of the Napoleonic campaigns outside Europe is frustratingly brief. The other publications here are all new to me, so I have a lot of reading to do. I found free digital copies of the James history on archive.org. And then discovered I already have them all. In two formats. Doh! Totally forgot. Maybe I should try reading them sometime… Dreams of Empire: Napoleon and the First World War is incredibly cheap (I just ordered it for $0.40 USD!), so pick that one up now if you want a copy. I may wait a while to check out Death Before Glory, and I may wait a LONG while to read the Duffy book, at that price. The free stuff should keep me busy for a while. - Ix |

Fortescue as well, Vol 4 from memory |

Thanks! I found 13 volumes of Fortescue's work "A History of the British Army" with this search on archive.org. All volumes are available in PDF (scanned, not searchable), and most in epub, but the epub versions look pretty mangled by the scanning process. - Ix |
