Once did this with the REAL STUFF. Our battery (field artillery) had been firing for several days. Each round had five bags tied together but most of the shots used 2 or 3 bags per shot. The remainder of the bags had to be disposed of so we went to a safe (to burn area) and created a snake (2 bags together facing 1 way and then the next 2 bags next to it facing the other way and then make sure the bags were not pointing in the same direction so it formed loops) that was over 20 feet long. Opened one bag and used the pellets to form a fuse trail over 4 feet long and dropped a burning book of matches onto the fuse trail. We were standing about 8 feet away but had to step back about 10 more feet due to the heat. Wish we had a camera. Another battery used a disposal hole and the fire shot up at least 50 feet. |
