Okay, a silly forum game. The first poster gives a year of recorded history. The first person to respond picks a nation to field 10.000 soldiers from in an army, along with a few (brief) reasons why. Then they pick the next year. So, I'll throw the first ball and say 1630.
(if two people post simultaneously, use the FIRST response that registers)

Swedes. It was a banner year for the Swedes with them coming to Europe to save those folks fighting the Thirty Years War from themselves and all. You get Gustavus Adolphus at his prime. He conquered Pomerania, and my wife is Pomeranian. |

When did the Danes put 10 grand in the field? I thought even the "Great Army" was less than 10, more like 5000.Not picking a fight here …really interested. |

They almost certainly didn't, I used a bit of artistic licence! It was an age of smallish armies, so the choice of 10000 plus is a bit limited! So is anyone else going to play? |

1824, I'll say Prussians. Spirited, fresh off the 100 days and already gaining a reputation for being tough cookies. 1550. |

Ain Jalut. Mamelukes vs Mongols. What's not to like? Either army is colorful, and you can have Turks, too! 1178 BCE. (Gotta love Autocorrect--I almost didn't catch "Mamie Luke's" at "Ain't Jalut".) |
