Well, thatīs the poll!

Ed. suggested us to start it here, so…

Let the votes flow! (We need a real stream of them)

Toronto4811 Apr 2016 11:33 a.m. PST

bit late isn't it as the Rules are no longer being published

Yea even though I was a huge devote of Warhammer Ancients and in fact it was the game system that got me collecting ancients and Dark Ages miniatures I do not see the need for a board. Sadly I think Warhammer is being supplanted by other game systems such as Hail Caesar! and others that have recently come out. I am not playing ancients or Dark Ages at the moment but have considered just moving to Hail Caesar.

Just this weekend, I was thinking of getting my friends to try WAB again for the first time in many years.

But I'm not shure if a message board would be needed for this…

Buff Orpington11 Apr 2016 12:20 p.m. PST

TBH we might as well have a Newbury rules board. Haven't seen WAB played in years.

Lt Col Pedant11 Apr 2016 12:56 p.m. PST

…and I bet you haven't seen Newbury rules played in decades.

What the editor actually suggested was to create a poll in the polls section of the boards. Hail Caesar seems to have completely supplanted WAB in the local gaming community.

raylev311 Apr 2016 1:32 p.m. PST

Nah….the game is done.

No

I still play. It's one of my favorite sets of ancients rules.

I guess I don't understand all the negativity about WAB. Just because it isn't published anymore doesn't mean it can't be played. The rules still pop up, along with the supplements on both Amazon and ebay quite regularly.

Personally, I believe that too many people abandon a tried and true set of rules as son as something else comes along.

WAB is a great set of rules and I'll happily support a board.

Since I like the system and have almost the entire series of books, I am going to say yes.

kallman11 Apr 2016 2:46 p.m. PST

I doubt the game is done. There are still those who play and enjoy. However I would say that it is shrinking because you can no longer purchase the rules other than trying to find it on e-bay along with all the supplements. That in itself will result in a slow death. It has been my observation that at least when it comes to gaming groups attached to a particular brick and mortar store that without support from the manufacturer and everyone being able to have their own set of rules to read over that it makes it hard to generate interest.

That other poll wasn't very well worded. "Not supporting" is not necessarily the same thing as "opposing"…

I'd certainly be happy to read more about WAB (Which indirectly got me back into ancient gaming), but I'm not convinced that a separate board is the way to do it.

Every day I check the Discussion boards at least a dozen times. I never check the "child" boards, though, because there are already five of them (WRG, DBx, FoG, Mighty Armies, Hail Caesar) and this is too many tabs to check. So every time a new rules-specific board is set up that rule set drops out of sight for me on TMP, for ever.

Personally I'd prefer them all to be rolled back into Ancient Discussion- that way I'd be able to easily keep up with the latest news on the various sets.

Ditto… besides, the WAB forum itself is pretty slow:

Hail Cesar ? Why ? Because it is more recent ? It is'nt even half the game rules than WAB is. For the same reason you could just as well forget WAB.
And yes, it is not because someaone started playing wargames a few years ago that one must think WAB is not being played anymore. The better rules will always eventually be played.

Naaaa…..not required.
