On Friday evening four locals refought the first day of the Battle of Shiloh using Volley & Bayonet. Fitting, as it was last week the anniversary of the battle. As is often the case we used our 6mm armies which are based at half scale. As expected the scenario provided an excellent evenings game.
A report of the game, with a number of photos, can be found on the Volley & Bayonet website: link |

Not my scale of choice but an excellent battle report of a closely fought action! Thankyou for taking the time to post the AAR! |

Where were the Union Siege guns? |

Thanks for your comments. Rich, in answer to your question Grant had ordered the siege artillery moved, slowly, south to the positions along the sunken road. |

Ah. I played this with my son a few months ago and left them at Pittsburgh landing. Made the difference in repelling my last attack. He's a pretty clever 12 year old. |

I think Grant had too much in the front line. If Lew Wallace hadn't arrived the landing would have fallen. That said the alternate Rebel arrival provided opportunities. |

I have gamed Shiloh using the historical deployment and allowing the Rebels to ditch Beauregard's unwieldy formations and that alone made a massive difference to the way the battle was fought. |
