Does anyone know the answer? I've re-read some of the Barsoom series and flipped through others, and I can't find a line that says "…his green coat…" or any indication of Woola's colourings at all. So I thought I'd ask here.

I suspect it isn't mentioned, but you never know. Thanks for anyone that knows & answers!

The Barsoomia wiki doesn't give a colour

Perhaps the movie? Or just go with what looks good. They are Green Martian watch beasts so…

I think you would be safe going with a green or brownish green color. If you want to be adventurous do some kind of subdued mottling of either lighter or darker tones of the base color.

Maybe in a Frazzeta's picture

Burroughs does not appear to say, but Frazetta painted the Warlord's faithful calot green with an off-white underbelly. I would not be surprised if the green Martians had bred them in various colors, if only so if a Thark stole one from a Warhoon, he could know he'd done it.

Kaor!

I think that this is the Frazetta picture that Robert P. had mentioned above.

Many more here: theartofbarsoom.blogspot.com You may not find a definitive answer to your question there, but it is a good source of inspiration nonetheless.

Figuring calots are pack hunters on the endless plains of three dead sea bottoms; a camouflage scene to blend with the ochre moss would make sense.

Yup, as I thought, we can make it up. Thanks for the ideas guys, pretty well matches mine, but I guess we're all influenced by the artwork & movies as shown above.
