…more vehicles or an opposing force? I am currently assembling all the forces I have for some small platoon level games and was curious if the designer plans to do anything else with the line.

I am thinking the same thing. I've actually been trying to sell mine with no luck, so now trying to find uses for them. I was thinking of buying a bunch of GW Kroot, and play something like 19th century colonial scenarios with them.

Oh I like your idea nnascati. Of course I know that you can create your own opponent with just about any other 28mm Science Fiction models out there. In fact I have been slowly painting up a bunch of old GW Space Marines in WW II US tank colors with an American flag on the right shoulder pauldron and the white star in the circle on the left so I can have a furturistic Weird WW II kind of game. Still I was curious as if Dreamforge had a longer term plan/idea/concept for such nice figures.

They actually had plans for an opposing force and some of the 3D renders were posted here a while back. I do not know what happened or if they will be made. They had a real HALO alien menace vibe.

Bashytubits jogged my memory Dreamforge did produce some concepts for an alien opponent(the Shadokesh?).

not sure if the Wargames factory/Warlord games thing had an effect on Dreamforges plans or not.

And a bit of stuff from the dream forge blog on Feral Shadokesh

further to my post I guess the Wargames Factory/Warlord Games thing has put a dent in Dreamforge release schedules as they struggled to go from designing to distribution.

they posted this on their blog in Jan

Just wanted to drop in and give an update. The transition from WGF is complete, we have our warehouse and have been shipping from that location for about two months. We have worked out the software issues for the wholesale orders and have been filling them.

We have about a year's supply of product on hand and OOS items such as the Panzerjäger are on the water heading here now.

I have been working on the day to day business aspects, cost analysis, product restocks back end implementation issues, etc. so not a lot of glamorous items to give an updated on for that front.

We have two restock orders incoming from China, the cost has been educational. The cost of shipping is not just crazy expensive for my customers but for us as well. In some cases, it costs more to ship a product than it does to produce it, in other cases the cost to produce a kit was not in line with what it is being sold at into distribution. Some kits were being sold at a net loss once shipping was factored in. Unfortunately, this will mean a price increase, some kits will see a marginal increase, other will be a bit more drastic.

I will give a detailed SKU by SKU run down and explanation later this week.

We have two new SKU's that will be offered once they arrive. The 15mm scale Capacitor cooler and a 60mm tall display model of one of our Assault Troopers. We should have these in hand sometime next month. We are putting the final touches on the files for the Shadokesh main trooper box set. No eta on a release date yet for the Shadokesh, until they are on the water and heading here it is simply impractical to give an estimate.

Interesting and thanks for the information Prince Rupert. Would it not perhaps be more feasible to bring the molds and production back to the states to save on the shipping coast from China???? Just a thought. I did find it interesting that part of the fluff is that the Eisenkern are household forces and therefore you could have Eisenkern versus Eisenkern battles.

Oh and thanks for finding that old thread I remember now that the Shadowkesh were at one time in the works.

Kallman@ I would have thought so but I'm no expert. I know the UK plastic companies benefit from having Renedra (who I believe are ex Games Workshop employees before they outsourced plastic miniatures to China) in the UKI. I'm not sure if there is an equivalent type company in the US Wargames Factory using China from the very start.

Lion in the Stars03 Apr 2016 1:07 p.m. PST

A US company would need to have the exact same injection-molding machines as the factory in China, else bringing production back into the US would require cutting new molds, which destroys the point of returning manufacture to the US.

Cergorach04 Apr 2016 11:37 a.m. PST

As outsourcing to china became popular, many industries closed down completely. Chances are that there are no companies with the skills to deliver the kind of quality we're used to from Dreamforge models. As far as I know there was no one in the states before the great exodus to China that did high quality plastic model kits…

And as far as Renedra goes, a couple of years ago the costs of moldmaking and production in the UK was so high that even if shipping was twice production costs, it was still cheaper to produce in China… Prices have gone down in the US/EU for producing metal molds (cheaper machines), but prices for personnel are generally still getting higher… In China a lot faster then in the US/EU, but with the ever higher shipping costs, there will come a day that it might me cheaper to source it locally. But still, virtually no skills locally…

Renedra also had a hell of a long waitinglist (year+).
