I think the question though, is in error, since does one really "own" a cat?

I think the real question should be, "how many cats do you play servant to(?)", since clearly, they are the masters of their realm, especially if they have opposable thumbs and can open doors.

I play servant to two, one named Monty destroyed my 10mm Afrika Korps, little chewed the lot, the other one just likes the sound of his own voice, happy days

We have 6 cats and a 15 month old boy. Happy days in our house protecting my figures from all an sundry.

Our Monty has eaten my French 6mm napoleonic figs.

Does anyone truly "own" a cat?

We are getting two new kittens tomorrow. Our last cat of 15 years passed away last August. She liked to roll dice and walk the battlefield on my table. Never knocked over any terrain or chewed anything.

Who know what the new kids will be like.

I have a Tiger on the mantel in the living room. Does that count?

I like cats…other people's cats, that is. But I do not have any, nor do I want any of my own.

Well put. I have 4 masters

7. All rescues and people who abandoned them on our property

4. all Rescues, picked up here or there, or dropped at the house. Along with 2 yellow Lab dogs. Kids wanted them. Now they are grown, and guess who gets to deal with them? The cats ignore everyone in the family, but me. They literally follow me all over the house. They must hate me. They like to get right in front of me, and then lay on the floor, trying very hard to trip me up. They also just love to wake me up at night. One sleeps on my head at the top of my pillow and sometimes in the middle of the night will decide my hair is not clean enough and will commence to give me a bath. He is not quite right tho. He survived a demolished trailer from a hurricane. One of the females likes to lick/nibble on my chin in the middle of the night. Like I said, they ignore everyone else.

Damn pests!

Dogs have owners, cats have staff.

I have my one four legged companion Aragorn.

5 dogs, 2 birds, one immense lizard.

Cats are not welcome and likely would be eaten.

My wife and I ride herd on 9 of those crazy felines.

One, but she is 22 years old. No telling how long she will be around.

When we moved to the country we had seven cats (the leftovers from when we were breeding Maine Coons). We now have none – sometimes cats and dogs just don't mix.

One. And I just got the paperwork today certifying him as my service animal.

They have all died off years ago. When diagnosed as allergic, along with oldest daughter, I decreed no replacements. We now have a companion dog (Coton de Tulear) and I am much happier.

I have a Monty too! Except mine is a Rabbit.

No cats, We have three of our own bunnies, plus a guest bunny.

Between them they have formed three (sometimes 4) opposing factions. My house resembles a warzone…

One belongs to my wife and me. The other two belong to our step-daughter. (She is staying with us temporarily.) So for now, we have three.

One allows my wife, a small dog, and myself to live in his house. Very generous of him.

Two, Scruffy and Mittens. They're both rather old now.

Both were strays that we adopted.

Three, all rescues.

Six. Patches lives in the games room and is harmless except for naping on the battlefield and blocking LOS while Bandit only comes in when I set up terrain, knocking down as much as possible before being evicted. The other 4 stay clear of visiting gamers.

We have one, a "torty", and we are definitely her staff. She tolerates us generally, though occasionally her patience runs thin.

I get to wait on one cat. And officially he's not even mine.

3 – all rescued – all indoor – all family

None for the past few years. Our German Shepherd is too prey oriented, but at one time we had 3 cats in the house. I miss having both a dog and a cat.

We have 4 that live with us. Tom, PK, Neikeo & Moritz.

Absolutely none. Strictly a dog guy. Three Australian shepherds keep me busy enough.

None – no pets at all. Just about got the kids out of the house, why would I want to get something else I need to worry about on vacation?

I ride herd on a pair of them, and they ride herd on me.

1, we live on 2 acres of partially wooded land so field mice are always getting into the house. She has a job to do and that's to get the ones the traps don't. She earns her keep just like the dog…He's a 180lb Sheppard and Bernese mix…

None, but I feed 3 of the neighbor's cats, because he takes off for days at a time. At the peak of "cat sitting" for another neighbor, the total was 11…
