Hi, I'm looking for recommendations for 6mm 1980s African micro-armor rules. I have mechanized forces for 1980s Angola and 1980s South Africa. Is Fist Full of Tows III worth getting (despite the price)? Or would Cold War Commander work for this conflict? Or something else completely obscure? LOL. The nice thing about the 6mm micro-armor I'm buying its enough for both sides. The bad things I have no readily playable rules for it. Thanks, Blake |

AK47 is the default for this stuff. CWC will do fine. FFT3 IS expensive but you get stats for basically every tank ever made. edit: AK 47 is pretty easy to play, and the setup tables are hilarious, though it does lean towards the sillier side of things. CWC I personally couldn't get into but a lot of people love the command system. Very "Leader" driven and it does reflect the difference between good and poor quality leadership very strongly. Vehicle rules are weak. FFT plays very conventional (move, shoot, IGOUGO) but it plays FAST. You can play huge games in not a lot of time and the rules are very straight forward. Even artillery, which is usually the worst part of a modern era game, is easy and quick to use. |

We've used Cold War Commander with great success…. |

Command Decision is a good set for this. There are complete OOb's, scenarios and a campaign game in one of the old Command Post Quarterly issues. |

I have played a lot of AK47 in 6mm. They have a unique African feel to them but I would not describe them as micro-armour rules. Each model represents 3 vehicles so a tank company is 2-4 models. Tanks are expensive (in points) so not many models are fielded in each army. Tanks are also fairly generic and not much different from one another. If you prefer to play 1 model = 1 vehicle then I suggest you take a look at the Wargames Research Group (WRG) modern micro-armour rules. The second edition are available free here; PDF link They might appear daunting at first glance but are not hard to learn. We played them endlessly back in the 80s & 90s. |

I've used AK47 with 6mm. I was skeptical as I am somewhat a nuts and bolts kind of guy but the game was a lot of fun. As Weasel said, it tends toward the silly, but silly can be good. |

I use Fivecore rules for Brush Wars: link They come in skirmish, company, and Brigade levels and are fast and fun. Similar to AK47 in the lack of "nitty-gritty" detail for armor but have a unique turn mechanism that plays well. Nordic Weasel also has a supplement "Not Just a Brush War" that adds some great flavor for campaigns. The rules are inexpensive and the writer is very accesible for questions/suggestions… |
