There's a quote, supposed to be from a US Army officer about a frontal attack by US Marines. "The attack went up the hill in column of companies and the casualties came down in column of platoons". I read this in a book about the US in the Great War. I also read this same quote in a book about WWII. I read this again in a book about Khe Sanh "End of the Line". It was in the part of the book about the hill fights preceding the building of the base. The same quote is attributed to events in three different wars. Anyone know if this is genuine? If so, where was it first really said? |

I've seen something almost exactly like that, but attributed to their German opposition in ww1. Strikes me as the kind of thing that yes, somebody probably did say once but good luck finding where it actually originated. |
