Dabbling and toying with ideas of running an Air War Campaign based on AVBCW.

Anyone else done the same?

Was thinking Wings of War/Glory but some of the aircraft stats are a bit lacking, are there other rules I should think about?

So you know what I am thinking off and have to use.

Going more 1/144 for the aircraft as we locally game in 12mm (pendraken etc for big fights) or 15mm (skirmishing) and we all have some for ground support in that scale. But we have been more into "Not obviously WW1, Not Quite WW2, looks the part, we will use it" attitude.

Model wise, for air support so far, I have done a bit of Kit bashing of some Furuta aircraft to create some "Gladi-aints"and some "Poor-knock-ovs" I-15s, I see some nice stuff from Zvevda (Battles, Blenheims, a newly release I-16), This should do for an ersatz Fury (there are 4 in the box, so almost all of those I need)
auction

I'm using the conceit that the RAF that stayed loyal have moved to the Green/Brown ww2 air cammo, the others remain in the classic silver.

I'm plotting on the following factions: Loyalist, Anglican, Socialist Navy (coming up from Portsmouth, so the navys Fury, the Nimrod and Swordfish), A BUF "Steel legion" with some German supplied aircraft and Soviet supplied communist group.

You could take a look at Bag the Hun and Check your six.

I had similar ideas a while back but in 1/72 as there are loads of cheap 20's and 30's plane kits available. Bag the hun would be good. Another option is 1/600 using TD planes.

Bag the Hun by the two fat lardies, is quite good, massive amount of aircraft info. might be what you are looking for.

Bag the Hun…definitely ideal for air games

…longer ago than I thought!

I'd go with Check your 6. 1:72 scale would be easier to get a wider variety of aircraft. Try looking on Hanannts.co.uk or KingKit.co.uk.

Many thanks for the replies:

Sadly 1/72 is not so good when you are playing in a small front room, plus transporting them to mates place for a game, which is a pity. And I have some "suitable" kit bashes already for our ground based games. From Furuta, I have picked up a load of Curiss p-6 Hawks, Goshawks, Grumman F3F-2, Yokosuka K5Y and a load of Swordfish from Furuta, as well as enough for kit bashing 4 "Gladi-aints" and 2 "poor-knock-ovs" so far which the main work is done. So I'll stick to 1:144 (or there abouts)

As for Bag the Hun and Check your 6, I'll pick up copies at Salute and check them out.

1/72 scale interwar planes are pretty small but 1/144 sounds like a plan. You can get BTH as a PDF from the TFL website.

There are a plethora of funky looking 1930s RAF planes which went out of service by WW2 but would look great for AVBCW. I don't know who makes scale model Hawker Hinds or Hendon bombers though but good luck in finding them.

Amen to the desire to see the Hawker Hind and its family in this scale. I think I can fuzz up a "looks a bit like a Fury" from the Eduard kit of the Early Avia fighter but that is as close as I can get (4 in a box so the 17 quid no longer seems expensive). I'd also love Curtiss Hawk II and Ospreys, shapeways seems to be the only source of those and over my 5 quid a model limit (I am a budget gamer).
