I was struck by how plain the color schemes are, compared to the way modelers like them.

My father used to say that, when he was in the Med, he was always amazed at how those slow Stukas seemed to make it unscathed through the sheets of fire the fleet put up.

Hafen,
"I was struck by how plain the color schemes are, compared to the way modelers like them."

I thought the exact same thing.

Interesting, and chilling upon contemplation of the loss of life represented in the Videos for both sides in the war. I suspect many depicted did not live to the end of the war. The skill of the pilots is amazing. The pilot that dropped the bomb on the fantail of the freighter was very effective if it was truly his aim to only disable the ship.

Could the bland colors have something to do with this film being a colorized version of the original black and white?

Remember the rules about propaganda "only show the victories". I assume that there are few pictures in a German propaganda film showing bombs missing the target or German aircraft being shot down.

I am extremely happy that most of my German aircraft have simple paint schemes. I suspect that as long as the German airforce was winning ground painted camo schemes could have been rare.
