I know that the French used camo paint patterns on the M-24 Chaffee tanks at Dien Bien Phu, but did they also camo other M-24 tanks in the other operations? If they did use camo on the M-24 tanks outside of Dien Bien Phu, did the French also camo other vehicles, i.e.:, M-3 half tracks, M-8 Scott, M-8 Grayhound AC. Thanks in advance. |

The vehicles I've seen are mostly in OD, as delivered. Dien Bien Phu was a local decision--not sure it caught on anywhere else, but I suppose it's possible. Apart from my M-24s with DPB camo, I just use Olive Drab/Green. |

Hmm… didn't realize they used camo at DBP. I can only remember seeing plain 'ol olive drab. |

From the pictures I've seen and records I've read, I think the French used the vast majority of their US-issued equipment as is, in US olive drab/green. |

For DBP I've seen this one a lot. link The 1/35 M-24 kit done by AFV Club offers the camo option. |

I think that some of the cammo was mud applied to the vehicle. Most photos I've seen of other vehicles seem to be single colour, though covered in dust/mud depending on the season. |

The "Bisons" at Dien Bien Phu were certainly camouflaged. The best source is: Mengelle, Andre (1996) Dien Bien Phu Des Chars et des Hommes. (Paris: Editions Lavauzelle.) The different platoons used slightly different schemes. Outside of DBP I don't think that I have seen any examples of camouflaged vehicles. Cheers, Bertie |

The Dien Bien Phu tanks were the only example of camouflaged AFVs in Indochina. |
