Hi folks, I'm looking to launch 'something' (can't say what yet) around August/Sept this year, and need a resin caster for the miniatures side of said something. Google, is not my friend on this occasion, however. Being based in Australia, I liked the idea of commissioning an Aussie casting service, but none can I find. Any ideas? Or am I going to have to send my money to the US or UK? The castings will be around 70-120mm, multi-part items. Well-detailed, but not too fiddly. Any advice gratefully received. - Martin |

Try knights of dice, they should be able to point you in a direction |

Thanks Thorr, but I think Knights of Dice are primarily concerned with lasercutting nowadays, nothing resin at all in their online store that I can see… Really looking for a company that can handle a fair-sized initial run, (approx. 250 – 500 full castings) ongoing work. Needs to be someone using pressure casting equipment, not gravity casting or spincasting. (I'm pretty sure what I'm doing will be too large for spincasting anyway.) |

Knights of Dice is probably going to be your only source for info on who else might do that kind of work there. |

Eureka will happily share information I'm sure, they have resin products in their line up. The other approach is to google up resin suppliers in Oz and ask if they know anyone. Doung a Google search for "resin casting service australia" threw up quite a few links as well. |

I might throw a question or two Nic's way… Hadn't thought of Eureka. I'd rather speak to someone who's actually had a few years of doing this, rather than setting up / planning / knows a guy, etc. Looking at a serious investment, and don't intend to waste a penny. (Actually, can't afford to waste a penny!) But trust me McWong, googling 'resin casting service australia' – almost the first search term I used – give loads of links to resin and silicone suppliers, not casters. It seems that if there are any here in Oz, they're determined to hide from potential customers! |

There are also the garage kit guys in the scale modelling scene, as well as the RC crowd that may have casters that can be found locally. Also there are some left field suppliers that occured to me – I know the aquarium scene uses resin cast pieces for water filtration parts, but a lot of that has moved to 3d printing. Either way, if you find someone let us know. I've a long term project that would require casting to be done. |

Interesting to know, McWong! Will do. Perhaps by Our Powers Combined (TM) we could wrestle a deal from a caster. I have a strong suspicion, however, that I'm going to have to look long and hard at a US/UK caster, or possibly, one in China. The issue is one of postage costs. Making miniatures in Oz is fine, but postage to the big markets OS could be crippling… a manufacturer in, say, the UK who's willing to ship to a fulfilment company in same country could be the answer… In any case, stay tuned! |

Hard one. For ease of mind though, you can't beat local…assuming one can be located! |
